Sorry for the delay in response... IF you have a Ford dealer around, go to them, if not, then I gues if you need the truck, then take what you can get... Good luck with fixing it!
Know what i noticed today while checking under the truck, a missing weight on the first drive shaft out of the rear pumpkin. I thought those weights are welded on?? It looks like they are stuck on with a strong adhesive tape..
Well I put it all back together and switched the front tires around , and guess what.......................................it still vibrates the same as ever!
I'm starting to think inboard on the drivetrain. The only way you can actually check to see if it's not in the axles, is crazy, but doable. Find a nice hill, take the driveshafts out and coast down at speed with the motor idling. If no vibration, it's tranny or transfer case. If it's still there, it narrows it down some.
When you say you swapped the tires around, did you go front to back or side to side.
Honestly, the more I think about it, it sounds like a torque converter going south.
Hi. This is my first post in this forum. I too am having a vibration problem too with a 2000 SD crewcab dually 4x4 6spd manual with 7.3 diesel. It is scheduled to go in the shop for ball joint replacement this Monday but I have this vibration that is becoming more pronounced. I've checked the u-joints and the carrier bearing and they seem fine with no play but look dry. I can feel this vibration on the floor board when it runs between 30 - 40 mph and only when I accelerate, not when I let off the gas. Any guess before I take it in the shop?

^^Did anybody see this post?Take a look under there and see if one of your weights popped off there. I got a viberating issue too and i,m missing a weight. Let me know what or if you find out..

Welcome to FTE.
Sometimes that sort of vibration is from a worn out injector that causes a misfire at half throttle, then clears up if you floor it.
The other possibility, and this is what happened with my truck, is that the OD bearing fails in the six speed and then there is this shuddering on accel only in OD at half throttle.
I chased it with new u-joints, carrier bearing, etc because it felt exactly like an out of balance driveshaft. One rebuilt transmission later and it is smooth as silk.
Maybe thats my problem too Dan but i got a round metal weight that came off my first drive shaft coming out of the pumkin. Just looking around under one day and noticed it, o well, must not be a problem then, or could it??

On yours if you can feel it, I don't think that accel or decel would have any effect. It just would be there and increase in frequency the faster you go.
Hi Dan. Thanks for the reply. I don't believe that it would be the injector or the OD gear. It this humming vibration happens around 30 - 40 mph in 3rd or 4th gear and only during acceleration, not on deceleration. Also, I feel it in the floor board like it is in the drive train or a worn out tranny mount. Funny thing is, I drove it today and had no vibration at mid 70 degree weather and had its worst vibration when it was low 30's at night. Another thing is that I washed it the day before and around the front axle. Rob
