2002 F-350 4x4 PSD
Ive had a vibration somewhere for about 2000 miles now.
I needed the truck and couldnt figure out what it was so I kept using it.
I finally had to do the balljoints on the drivers side , everything checked out OK.
Next I took off my driveshaft and checked my ujoints (I thought one had some play) but they all turned out OK.
Next I thought the ujoint in my front end on passengers side was bad but after closer examanation it was OK.
But.........the seals on the axle are gone , so after I took that apart I tryed turning the hub with the bearings in it , it turns ok with no up and down slop but theres a hard to turn place in it.
My question is , my vibration was BAD and Im looking for something that sticks out causing it?
Could the bearing be shot and Im not testing it proper?
Check to see if any of the balancing weights have fallen off the front wheels. I had this happen to me and the front end vibrated like crazy.
you should feel it when a belt separates
had it happen a few weeks ago with wife driving
was easy to diagnose though after I pried her loose from the steering wheel

do you have a two piece driveshaft, my 99 does and after a similar experience someone told me to grease it, problem solved. look on your driveshaft and see if there's a rubber boot almost in the middle of the driveshaft, if so you have a two piece that might need grease. good luck

Thanks swaybar another member told me about it and it seemed OK.
I cleaned it up and put it back together , it looked like new inside.
Did your look like new?
I didnt put a bunch of grease in it , should I have?
if you mean new as in (clean),no. it should be greased so it can move in and out. not a ton of grease but greased. i really don't know why some driveshafts are one piece and some two but are's are. when mine started to dry up it couldn't move in and out like its suppose to so I was getting a vibration when on the gas pedel. once i greased it my problem went away. it only moves in and out a very little. just put some grease on the spline and move it all over with your fingers. i had to grease mine about 95,000 miles. bought my truck with 89,000, don't know if it was ever done before.. let me know how you make out!
I gotta go with Jim and it being a tire related problem. It came on fast and hard. Is the vibration at all speeds? Have you rotated the tires to see if vibration changes?
Also, a bad hub could cause your problem, but with that much vibration and 2k miles, it should be easy to find by now.
Stick or automatic?
Mine had what felt like a bad u-joint under load and it turned out to be a failed bearing in my ZF6. It would shudder like there was a fishing weight tied to the driveline at 20% throttle 1800 rpm while in OD. Speed up or slow down and it would taper off.
I went through the same chase scene that you are doing right now. New U-joints, carrier bearing, etc.
Rebuilding the transmission completely cleared it up.
