Can I get a CPS for a '99 7.3 at Autozone or O'Reilly's and are they as dependable as one from Ford, I'm guessing they may come from similar sources, thanks for any information.
You can get a black one from DP-Tuner or the grey cheap one from you Ford Dealership. Don't know about the O'Reilly's I am sure it is the same as fords.
Don't get one from the discount part stores. I have heard that they are unreliable.
I bought one at O'Reilys a couple of months ago and it started cutting out after about a week. I had to replace it with an international one. No problems since.
Order one from DP or International, forget about the parts stores! Free from Ford due to a recall, they will put a gray one in to replace the black one that came with the truck. But they are having problem with the new grey one already!! Are you having problems with your CPS ( Truck shutting off ) or just getting a spare? And welcome to FTE!!!!!!!!!!
I replaced a CPS with one from International about 4 years ago, had close to 100k in mileage, thought I would change it out after reading the forum. I wasn't having troubles, but had to go on the road alot to work for the Veterans Admin to help these new veterans. Now I have 238K and I had a hiccup or something like that only momentary, but first thing I thought of was the CPS. I'm here in Arkansas for a couple of months, then I retire.
I have a '99 SD and only problems I have ever had was a speed sensor, really pleased. And thanks for all your responses.
I would not fix what is not broken. Buy a black one from DP or International and keep it in your glove compartment. Make sure you have a few tools and a flashlight incase you ever have to change it on the road. I tried the gray Ford one and had problems. Ford does not always have a better idea.
