My windows are not operating anymore. They can only be opened and closed by the driver. My passenger window sometimes won't go up it does not happen often but I am afraid it won't go up one of these cold days. Is my motor out if I can still open and close the windows? How hard is to change the motor? Is there anyplace on the web that will give me instructions?
Thank you.
If the motor still works with one switch, then I would suspect the other switches. Sometimes what you can do is wiggle all the switches back and forth, and then go around and see if any of them take off and work the window.
Will I have to remove my door panel to find any loose connections so that all the windows will work? They all work from the driver side but not individually.
Ford window problems, especially on older trucks, are usually mechanical not electrical. The gears are white plastic, and disintegrate over time. This causes the windows to get stuck, occasionally not go in one direction, etc.
If you can hear the relay click, or hear the motor try to work, the problem is mechanical.
You should be able to get a gear kit from your local auto parts as this is a common problem. Remove the motor/gear assembly, open the gearbox for inspection.
The assembly is held in the door by 3 screws, 8mm if I remember correctly. Two of the screws are exposed, and one is behind the panel. There is a dimple in the panel in relation to the two exposed screws to indicate where the 3rd screw should be. Drill the dimple, and you will see the 3rd screw. Prop the glass up out of the way, and remove the assembly.jd
