I have an 89 bronco, the rear window was working, I opened the tailgate then closed it and now the window doesnt work. The switch is fine, I have power going to the motor for the window to go up and down. The motor is brand new, I unclipped the motor from the clip and used a battery to get the window back up. Is there a kill switch or something that must work in order for the window to go up? So the window will work only if the tailgate is up? I saw a long rod that i thought might be it, please help. Thanks for your time.
I understand that, when the tailgate goes up it had to hit a switch or something, where is that switch, mine must be defective. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know.
The safety switch is located inside the tailgate next to the drivers side latch. Sometimes on mine I have to either slam the gate a bit or push in on that side to get the window up...Then it works good for about 6 months, then I have to do it again. Those switches are real bad for being a prob. Some people just bypass the switch.
Mine did that a couple of months ago. I found an old post that said to push hard on the top left corner of the tailgate to close the safety switch. It worked and I haven't had the problem since.
