My full size Bronco tail gate won't open. The switch to operate the rear window stopped working and the window is stuck in the almost completely "up" position (closed). Is there a fix or fuse for the switch so I can get the window down, and subsequently - the tail gate open? There is no window motor noise when I attempt to activate the tail gate window switch. I'd appreciate any good advice. Thanks!
I have been having a similar problem on my 1990 bronco. First the motor went out and that got replaced. Now we cannot roll the window down.
We've analyzed the switch and how it transmits the up and down signal to the tailgate motor. The switch have 5 prongs, a 2x2 matrix on top and a bottom ground. The topleft prong(1:1) is where the power feeds in. When you operate the switch to roll the window up, the switch gives power to the bottom left prong(2:1), for the down position the bottom right prong(2:2) gets power. The wires that connect these two prongs are the same color, purple.
I am not sure where these wires feed but they must be distinguished somewhere along the way to the tailgate because only two wires feed to the motor.
This would be significantly easier if we had an electrical diagram!
there is a switch that tells the truck when the tailgate is shut. i have had problems on my 90, where the tailgate wasn't shut guite tight enough, and the window wouldn't work. i just pushed it and the switch recognized that the tailgate was shut, and the window worked great. if the switch is bad, then you can jump it. your gonna have fun doing it though. You can climb in the back and open up the access panel and grease the gears, if you don't do this regularly, they will seize up on you. my 95 wouldn't close all the way when i bought it, but a little grease was the magic trick.
Well now aren't you guys the lucky ones....I have on my computer, all 13 pages of the wiring schematics for the 1992 and newer F150/Broncos. I scanned em off for someone else. If you can get me your emails, I will send them to you. They will remove email addresses from the forum, (security reasons I guess), but if you replace the "@" symbol with (at), then I can figure it out and send them to you. If you need anything else from 80 to 91, give me a couple of days and I can get those scanned off too.
**Note to forum moderator, if I shouldn't of told em how to get me there email addresses, I'm sorry. Just trying to help out with the resources I have.**
It turns out after bypassing the safety switch the motor works fine, so that was the problem. You can email me at grw0o19athotmail.com with the diagrams, I'm sure they will come in handy when I get a new switch and install.
Would you be able to send me one for my 90 Bronco... I too have a tail gate window problem ... it wont go down.... no noise or anything like the switch is dead.... I havent even looked at it yet...If you can send me a wiring diagram that would help a lot...
