The drivers side power window on my '86 Bronco is now not functional. It is 3" down and won't go up or down. How can I tell if its the switch or the motor?
can you hear the motor? If you can then the regulator needs rebuilding. There are these 3 round plastic wedges inside the regulator. They go bad and break apart. Goto the local autozone. They have them at the HELP section. If you don't hear the motor, then check the wiring and the fuse. hope that helps
I've replaced my 86's motor a couple of times now. The current motor will occasionally freeze up when it is either in the totally up or down positions. It sounds dumb, but try slamming the door a couple of times, or hitting the motor with a hammer. I guess the gear locks up sometimes.
Unless it is one of the forementioned electrical problems.
It ended up being my motor. Funny thing was it was a new motor, barely 2 years old. It was made in India too. I replaced it with a used one from a Bronco II.
(a little tip - If you find out you have a passenger side by mistake you can still make it work by mounting it up side down and reversing the wires.)
yep. you're right. You don't have to reverse the wires, i didn;t on mine, only if you want to function as it did before. 1980-86 window switches aren't even marked up-down so that why I didn't worry about it. Save you brain for my next problem.
