I posed this question to the 87-96 forum and didn't get much of a response, maybe someone here will have a better idea: I just swapped a ZF 5 speed into my '90 F350 and am trying to get an idea of how much the E4OD I pulled out is worth. I do have all of the bits that go with the transmission because it's a conversion (drive plate, computer, etc), but the transmission itself is questionable (the guy who sold the truck to me said it was toast, but I drove it around before I started the swap so I don't know what he's talking about).
I guess I'll put an ad on craigs list but I don't have any idea how much to ask for it.
Thanks guys!
PS - Holy ---- is this thing long. I've worked on commercial trucks with shorter transmission housings.
As a none working core, $300 tops, the computer could be worth another $50-$100 if its good. Not sure about the drive plate.
Searching on Ebay will give you an idea for what others are selling them for.
Yes, it is huge for a transmission in this class of vehicle. I dropped mine a few times transfer case and all. ***Please keep all limbs that you want to keep clear of the transmission*** The C6 is a little tike compared to the E4OD.
Thanks, David85! Most of what I found on ebay were unsold rebuilt units for almost more than I've ever paid for a truck, which is partially why I had no idea of a ballpark for this.
You're a brave man to pull the thing with the t-case on it...I hope you have a good transmission jack!

I rather use the term desperate lol! I used a collection of wood blocks, jacks, jack stands and a lot of patience. No trans jack since they were all over $1000 at the time I might have needed one. My E4OD swap was way more trouble than I bargained for, but I am still happy with the results.
Thanks for the replies. I've got it on craigs list for $200 for a week now and no bites. I keep tripping over this thing as it's still under a tarp next to my driveway and I want it gone. It sounds like it's only potentially worth money if I find the right buyer. If it goes in the shed or the basement I'll probably forget that that I own it and it won't see the light of day again until it's an antique!
I hate to bring this back up, but how hard was it to swap from a e4od to a 5 speed. I am thinking about doing this and wanted to know if you have any tips? Thanks
It's not that bad if you have all of the parts. For me the hardest thing was getting the ZF 5 speed onto the back of the engine (I have a crappy trans jack and a rough driveway). Having a donor truck for the swap was key for me for the parts, as I got the donor for $550 and was able to use the clutch, flywheel, clutch hydraulics, pedal assembly, dirve shafts, cross member, cab floor pan, and the tranny itself. Not to mention that I still have a spare running 7.3 and axles from the donor.
One thing - if you get a rusted out hulk of a donor like I did and want an easy way to get the trans out, try this:
When I pulled my 5 speed to do the clutch it took two people to lower and stablize it on the jack. When putting it back in it took two to lift and one to push it into place.
I think im gonna be buying a transmission jack next time I have to deal with this proplem.
