I have a 2001 Excursion 7.3 with 50K on it. I just put a Vegistroke Conversion on it (actually, I had it installed). I had no problems at all since the install a week ago, so I don't tink the problem is Vegistroke related. Anyway, the last few days it has been chilly in the morning (50-60) and I've been getting the "romps" on start up for a few seconds before it smooths out. I got into the truck last night at work and noticed the check engine light was on. I got a P0232 code off of it this morning, which says, "Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit High". I did a search on this site with the keyword "P0232" and got some results. When I read the threads, it seems that most people who get the code have a no start condition. Mine starts and runs normally, except for the "romps". Anyone have any ideas? By the way, I had a starting problem that guys on the forum helped me with. I turns out that it was just a fuel filter problem.
BTW, I was low on fuel (70 miles to empty on the lie-o-meter) yesterday morning. I put in $50 worth of diesel (the pump cut me off at $50! Amazing). The problem didn't present itself until 12 hours later...about 75 miles of driving between new fuel and check engine light.
Any help for a diesel newbie would be appreciated! Thanks to all who responded to my post last time to help me out.
Can you hear the fuel pump at cycle running? Don't mess with your fuel pump not working right. It will leave you stranded in a heartbeat. In our 02 the fuel pump started going out and it sounded like a grinding noise. Don't wait too long to look at it or it will ruin the injectors.

Where is the fuel pump located? Like I said...I'm new to these trucks and diesels...Treat me like I know nothing and you won't be far off.
BTW, Diane, I spoke to Jody about a month age about a tuner. I'm still planning on getting it, but I need to get gauges first (right after I get money for the gauges!
It will be right under the drivers side seat on the inside of the frame. Next time you crank her up roll your window down and listen for the pump and the noise it makes.

I can't hear anything from the fuel pump at all. I know it's working, though, because the truck runs. What else could cause the code besides a failing pump? A friend at Ford ran the diagnostics and it specifically said "Fuel Pump SECONDARY Circuit reading high". Is there a primary and secondary circuit? Could it be something simple or does it mean that the pump is failing?
I dunno. We can only hope for a mechanic to come along and help know. The diagnostic reference I have says....
P0232- Fuel Pump circuit failure
I am asuming your friend is using an IDS to scan the code? Hopefully.
FWIW- you can run for awhile with the pump not working properly. On our 02 I ran it 70 miles then parked it after we discovered it was not working properly. Not a recommended thing to do though.
With the veggie you may want to check the fuel lines to make sure they are not clogged.

He was using a laptop from the dealership plugged in under the dash. It gave him a list of trouble codes from over the truck's life. I hope a mechanic comes along, too. I hope if it dies, I can just use the veggie oil pump to run on veggie oil! Thanks for your help, Diane.
Good point about the fuel lines with the veggie. Thanks.

Is there any hope of having him get a hold of that laptop again? The manual calls for checking a few different things, but to re-check for codes after each step.
I doubt the computer is an option unless I take the truck in for a service call. He did this for me on a "break". Maybe I can take it back once or twice after trying a fix. I'll check the file you posted. Thanks.
F350-6, thanks for the help on my intermittent starting problem a few weeks back. Your fuel filter suggestion solved it.

Perhaps if you post your location, there is a member close by that has their own scanner that can help you out without paying the shop fees.
Glad to hear the filter worked out. Routine maintenance is vital to these engines. Fluids and filters go a long way in keeping your truck running right.
