fuel pump bad??

If checking for fuel pump voltage: Place one meter probe in each of the 2 sockets that plug into pump? I did this and get 12V, but no fuel in secondary filter housing.

Background: Truck started running with VERY low power ( wouldn't pull itself up driveway and chaking like its not cool) after the wife had to hit the brakes hard due to an ******** driver running a stop sign. She babied it a mile home. 3 hours later when I got home it started fine, 1/4 mile trip around the block and ran fine. Next morning started normal, then 1/4 mile later ZERO power. That afternoon same thing after lesthan a 1/4 mile.

Replaced fuel filters ( had about 10K miles on them). Looked pretty bad for that few miles.

Put adaptors and fuel gauge off my Porsche onto fuel test point. Gauge read "0". Will it read "0" without top fuel filter installed always? Top bowl not filling. Checked the fuel shutoff switch in passenger side foot area. I think it was tripped, it seemed to click the first time i reached in and pushed on it. But still no fuel in bowl. Seems to be 12V at pump connector if I am checking it right.

Fuel pump bad? When turning key on, it feels like fuel pump is not doing anything?

Oh, also got code P0232, Fuel pump circuit high (or something close to that).
Rock on 6.0, sorry been a bad year for my 6.0 already.

I had those EXACT same symptoms last week. Did pretty much everything you described but in addition, I pulled the FICM and reflowed the solder on the recommended joints just to rule it out. Put it back together and thought I had it licked. Fired right up. Keep in mind it's been between 15 and 30 degrees everyday.
I drove it for 2 days and ran great. Went to leave work on day 3 and it fell flat on its face again. No power, blowing crazy smoke, and barely got it off the road. I have a fuel gauge but haven't installed it yet due to the temps.
I left it on the side of the road and went home and got the gauge. Came back and hooked it up under the hood. Truck started but gauge read 0. Thought it wasn't hooked up right so I triple checked all the connections, still read 0. Tried to idle it up and it started missing. So i crawled underneath and gave the Fuel conditioning module a shot with the blunt end of the screwdriver and gauge jumped to 45psi. Don't drive yourself crazy. I ordered a new unit from parts guy ED. Installed it and been a week with no problems.
I learned that the truck will idle great with gauge reading 0. Hope this helps.

429, how much was the pump from Ed? Was really thinking I was going down that road, but wanted confirmation from the masses on here that had been there.

Your injectors are not going to last long like that though ....

desertt5 - Were you asking if it will always read zero w/ the cap installed, but without the filter element?

Part # 6C3Z-9G282-B

Look it up on Ed's Web Site or on TousleyFordParts.com (around $225).

I also had (2) pumps go bad on my truck since, I bought it in 2003.

To double check it is fuel pump, is not working,
You can take the cap off the fuel filter in the engine compartment, and turn the key and see if the fuel pumps into the filter area. You would here and feel the pump also if it is running, Turnning the key to on position primes the fuel system. (Have a second person turning the key, you dont want the fuel all over your engine.)

If you are getting the voltage at the pump when you turn the key on, It does appear you have a bad pump. (I took my pump apart and there was a terminal inside that was not making contacts to the pump terminal)

I evan have a spare pump on hand now.

A certified Ford Parts Dealer, Will be less expensive than any auto place, (Call around you will be suprised the differnace)

Good Luck

I agree about the injectors will be toast quickly, hence the fuel pressure gauge and killing my Saturday.

yes that's what I was asking, will it build any pressure? i am not sure where that test port conects in the system.

Thanks

desertt5 -

I believe that the filter being absent should have nothing to do with building pressure or not. Hopefully if I am wrong someone will jump in and say so!

Good luck desertt5. The swap took me less than an hour in the dark at 10 degrees.

If you have no secondary filter then the center post ( forgot the proper term) seals the system. If you are taking you pressure reading at the test port you will have 0 pressure reguardless of the pressure in the secondary housing. Never tested this theroy but believe its correct.

wish I can add to this one but IU have never see a reason to run the pump w/o a filter. so I have no clue.

Thanks for the response! I don't think I want to volunteer to test it out either! There would have to be something preventing fuel from entering the filter housing when the filter was out (like a check valve in the supply line). I just don't see it in the way it is "plumbed", but clearly admit I could be wrong!
