DOAE heads, need advice

I have a line on a set of closed chamber DOAE 351 cleveland heads but have a couple of questions.

I intend to do a mild build on the 400 in my bronco. Will these heads provide decent torque or is it all high rpm?

Will my current intake and headers work with these heads?

What should I expect to pay for a set "loaded" springs, valves etc. ready to bolt in?

Would I be better off saving for a set of CHI heads?

Better off with the CHI heads by far. Either way though, you will need a set of TMI's zero deck pistons.

or the 2v afd's. they say that they are very streetable which would be perfect for a heavy bronco.

both chi and afd are great choices

Australian 302C quench heads are the iron heads of choice for torque. They are fairly inexpensive, and plentiful in the US now (by an importer)
CHI are basically the same, but take flow characteristics a little further.
I don't remember much if anything about the AFD's. Got a website?
The 4V quench heads can still be used, and you may even be quite happy with them. I know many who love them, including myself. The large ports and valves definitely lead to higher rpm power, but are still no slouch on the bottom, like some may say. I speak from experience.
If it were my choice and I had to make a purchase, it would be a 2V quench design for a truck, and if I had the money, it would be an aluminum variant.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll keep looking for the 2v quench variety.
Any Idea what the aussie heads are going for, or where to find them?

Looks like they are also the North American distributor of AFD heads as well...

I am working on a 408 with D1AE closed chamber heads right now. I plan to fill the intake ports with Goodson port shaping compound. The result will be a smaller high port head. I will use a set of spacers to mate a 2V manifold to these heads.

It just comes down to cost. I have spent less money than I would have on a set of CHI heads, and they should be better than Aussies.

If you can get the D0AE heads cheap enough, and they don't need too much work, grab them. Remember that you will need spacer plates when you are figuring the cost.
