351c torque converter stall and other ????

Couple quick questions. I now own a DOAE-J 4 barrel engine. I know many consider this a poor choice for a truck and consider the 4 barrel heads strickly for race applications. Oh well, its mine.

1. I am putting a C4 auto behind it. Which stall speed should I go with?

2. I am replaceing the flexplate. Some come with 28oz all the way to 50oz. Which flexplate should I go with?

3. I have the original logs being blasted and coated, how much HP will I lose by going with original logs versus aftermarket headers?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my never ending questions.

On a Cleveland you better go with headers if you want HP and especially with the 4V heads.I love my 79 f-150 with a 351C/AOD but it is basically stock(Edelbrock int.600cfm Holley and 351CJ"Q" code cam.Stall speed depends on cam, heads, weight of vehicle, gears.I ran 4V heads on the street for years with some guys telling me the 2V would run better but I always outran 2V guys with the same basic mods.

Clevelands use the 28oz flexplate. regarding the stall, what do you expect out of it, a daily driver with good manners in bumper to bumper traffic or a more performance oriented driving experience? i'd definately recommend at least some stall over stock for even a traffic jammer. C4 converters come in different "stock" stalls depending on what engine you have, or tell them you have. a stock stall for a 6 pop is higher than the stock stall for a 351. beyond that i'd say up to 2500 stall would not be radical at all. i have a $350+ 12" B&M Holeshot that was very disappointing with the rest of my combo, not nearly enough. my current 10" 3500 donut was more like it for that combo but kinda high for the 2V set-up i have running now. a 4V cleveland does like some stall!

your converter choice needs to be wary of the different convereter to flex stud mounting patterns and the converter pilot stub size. the 157t/164t flexplates might use different stud patterns.

the logs will ease the complication of getting the engine up and running in the chassis, but headers will really wake it up if/when you get to it down the road. all 4V Cleveland logs are not the same, especially the passenger side, IIRC the earlier version(70-71) the exit is back farther toward the firewall than the later version(72-74).

you'll want to choose a cam that really favors the exhaust for the logs, like the comp 275DEH
