I Have Been pretty vocal about my disappointment with my poor fuel millage on my 08 6.4. It has got a consistent 8.3 until it got hot here, and the fuel economy went down some, to about 8mpg this summer. <o></o>It has 11k on it and it is one year old. This is used for a HVAC service truck, so short trips, and probably rarely more that 25 miles. I have made a few road trips, and the millage was always lower than the 8.3mpg on the road. <o></o>>Well this week we had an install 60 miles away, and had to make three tips. The last one I was kinda surprised when the odometer went over the usual 250 mile without the low fuel coming on. I had noticed the Average had been creeping up to about 9.4, which is usually about one mpg above the actual. And has been at 9 to 9.3 while I was calculating 8 and 8.3 respectively. <o></o>>But when I filled it up after exactly 300 miles, when I hit the fuel stop, and I managed to cram 30 gallons in. That is easy to figure at 10mpg. Still wee short of the 12 my 6.0 got, but I would certainly be happy with it if it was consistent. <o>></o>>
The AC was not working very well today, probably got a leak or something. But it is about the end of summer and I will have time to take it in. Might see if they can do aflash and help the millage too. But I just want to share this with the board. I don’t know what changed, but it does show that better millage is possible
my buddy has a new 08 f-350 psd and he was getting 8 mpg then he went to the ford dealer and i guess ford came out with a new program for the 08's and they reprogrammed his truck and now he gets 20 mpg
I just bought mine 1 week ago, 08 F250 4x4 crew cab. Got 16 from the dealer (hwy mileage). 13.5 around town.
Trick to mileage is less than 2K rpm stay off the boast. Unless you need it of course.
Expect the mileage to get better once broken it. Have towed with it once at 600 miles 8K trailer got 9.2 mpg not too bad for starters but then again was running at 70mph.
I have had my truck for a year and have 18000 miles. I have yet to get anything better than 13mpg unless I was travelling on a long trip where I filled up and used the entire tank on the highway. I can honestly say that my mileage around town is on average 12.5.

I topped off in Ganado yesterday, coming back to Houston from the coast. I hit 20.5 mpg before I got off the freeway. I was going 70 mph-ish, rpms around 1875-1950 I'd guess.
I've been as vocal & critical as anyone about the mpg. But I'm proof you can get decent mileage, you just won't get it utilizing the horsepower of a very capable drivetrain on a regular basis.
I was passed by a couple of 6.4L trucks w/ same features as mine, they were going 5-10 mph faster. Those guys are not getting this kind of mpg, they're getting closer to the 13 mpg I get when I drive like that. It's basically your choice.
Well I will tell you one thing,, If I have to drive like I got a 6 cylinder gas to get better millage, it ain't happening to me. It is my job to drive it for what it was designed to do. It is ford's job to fix their mistake, not mine. Surly they realize the sales they have lost as a results of the **** poor fuel economy.
Fact is I was going to buy my wife a new F250, but instead I will get her a new Tahoe. Still would rather have the PU, Love the way it handles and drives, but not with this MPG penalty.

If she likes P/U's and your getting a Tahoe, why not a new 2500 crewcab? They're going cheap (I know...I was in the midst of buying one when my F-350 came along). Good mileage, VERY good drive train and all the amenties of a Tahoe..at the same or LOWER price. just my humble opnion

Reason: added info
Just purchased truck, about 3 weeks old now w/1250 miles. 2008 F250, CC, 4x4, 6.4, SB, 3.73 JOb #2.
I have been averaging 14.8 per the lie-o-meter, verified by calculating fillups and miles driven. That is about a 50/50 mix of hwy/city. I am very conservative, and stick around 65mph on the interstate with a few runs to 70 or 75. On the last fill up (@ 3.99 per gallon) yesterday, I have been VERY conservative and I am keeping the average MPG above 18.5 so far. We shall see.
I noticed on one run a week ago, I ran the truck up to 85mph, boy did it start sucking the fuel! I can see where being in the fast lane and a red light racer would get 8mpg or less in these things.
I'm getting the same results as most of ya. I have 84,700 on my 6.4 F250 crew. Keep the boost down and you can get 19-20 Hwy and 14 or so around town.
If you have soot in the tail pipe it's a great indicator that something is wrong. If you get happy with the right foot it will drop to about 1/2. Just remember all diesel fuel is not the same, run only Ultra low 15ppm diesel. The regular low (so they say) will give you issues with the dpf filter and cause more regens to clean it. For these size trucks I still think the milage is pretty respectable. For these new owners, Keep an eye on the bottom inside of the hood for signs of soot from a turbo hose leak and radiators leaking where the plastic meets the metal. Other than that, floor it and enjoy it, diesel fuels coming down baby !!
My AC quit with the mpg increase, may have had something to do with it. Any way I took it to the local ford lealer, small store. They have three new superdutys,, parked in the back corner of the place. I ask why they were not on the front line, and they acted like I should know. “They just said there ain’t no one around here stupid enough to even look at one” .
I ask about a reflash to improve mpg,, they just laughed and said it did not exist and probably never would. From another source, Ford has laid off a bunch from the Super duty production, because it is to a stand still. Looks like we are just screwed.
If ford is doing nothing, I guess the only hope is taking that dam converter off of it. I really thought ford might be smart enough to over come this, but i guess it is just the limitation of physics and they can't. I seriously doubt they would just give up the super duty if there were any options. So much for clean air.
By converter, I figure you mean the DPF. That isn't going to happen without a redesign of the emissions system. They can't battle the EPA here, it is a losing battle.
Gone are the days of non-working soccer moms in Excursions toting a single 6 year old to school. People who have a need (i.e. work, tow requirements), or really want to make concessions to own a large vehicle are still going to buy, own and drive them. The popluarity and political correctness of large vehicles has fallen sharply (obviously). For the past week I have been (slowly) changing the timing belt on my Focus, so I have been driving my new F250 KR to work, I was amazed at some of the looks I was getting from commuters. I just laugh at the glares from self rightous people in their Prius, Fit, or hybrid SUV. If looks could kill I would have been hung right there on 204. Don't get me wrong, I am all about driving my fuel saving Focus, but the public is starting to really dislike large vehicles.
As for fuel mileage, I am still holding at around 16.5 average. Still, I can't wait to go back to driving my Focus back and forth to work.
