If you are asking why I only have just under 2K on the truck it is because I have 3(three) F350's. All with specified jobs. I just bought the '08 in July.
I ran her a lot during her first month and now have had some jobs that do not require my trailers so I have been running my 05 F350 SRW for the best mpg's.
How cool is that having all those trucks. I must tell you,I bought mine just because I loved the new look. It had been eight years since I had a new truck. So I said oh yeah it's time.
It is expensive but awesome! I have a small construction company that performs a lot of different kinds of work so all three are all used for different jobs.
They are all great trucks.
I absolutely love my '08 but I am still in the can't get it scratched mod so it doesn't go to the real dirty jobs yet.
As gwcon said, that's a good thing. Ford discontinued the 4.88s because they realized there was limited benefit to them. The only thing they really do is suck fuel. The 4.30 rear gives great pulling power and not near as bad fuel economy.

I have 4.30s and run 2000RPM at 60MPH...at least I did before adding a Gearvendor. Now with the GV engaged I run 1500 at 60.
Overdrive/gear splitter unit. I put one on because I do quite a bit of empty highway driving and wanted to increase the fuel economy on those runs. I figure it will take about 20,000 miles to pay for itself...$4500 installed.
Is the gearvendor warranty friendly? Does FORD install it?
Am I understanding you correctly that once it is installed you can engage it or go back to the factory gear? That sounds awesome. How many mpg's do you gain with it?

Gearvendors are used in a variety of applications from hotrods to pickups. They are rated to 30,000 pounds if used for recreation...25k if used commercially. Warrantywise, it would be pretty hard for Ford to pin a breakdown on it...but I'm sure they could if they tried. Ford doesn't install it...I had Camping World install mine.
The Gearvendor unit is basically a 2 speed automatic transmission that replaces the tailshaft on your transmission. You can leave it in auto and it will shift in and out of OD by itself, or you can put it in manual and shift it in and out by yourself using a foot switch. With it I get as good or better fuel economy than I got with my '08 F350 SRW that I traded to get the F450 DRW...about 20% better than the 450 got stock.
Do you use it while you are towing a load as well as empty?
Sorry to keep asking questions but it is very interesting to me. I wish it was not so expensive or I would be heading to pick one up tomorrow.
Of course if it does pay for itself in 20K then its really not a bad investment.
I miss spoke there...I don't know where I pulled 20k out of...should have been 60k. I figured around 3-4 years and liked the idea of less wear and tear on the engine. Sorry for the error in the time to recoup. I plan on keeping this truck for a very long time.
