Oil Change
#16
I have done this on every oil change i have ever done. My dad always did it and said it was to get the oil in the system faster. I pour oil into the filter till full, let it sit while draining the oil from the vehicle, when ready to install it the filter will still be about half full, then tilt the filter about 45* and rotate by hand till the rest of the oil is gone, install on truck nothing spilt.
Just my method and .02

It's not that I misread anything, I know you don't leave the filter off. What I'm trying to ask is, "if" the filter was left off when you filled the engine with oil, oil would leak onto the ground. Therefore with the filter on oil would naturally fill the filter. That is unless, with the filter on, it creates some sort of bubble that prevents the oil from soaking into the filter. Then when the engine is started and the oil pump forces the oil to flow through the filter. So is it really necessary to fill the filter?
Sorry my misunderstanding. I agree with you. I have never filled the oil filter with oil before putting it on any of my vehicles. I usually don't turn around and start my truck up right after the oil change either. So oil will flow into the filter through a little magic called gravity.

I used to not fill the filter when changing the oil. But, I could hear the motor knock, when I started the engine, until oil filled the filter. Granted, if was only for a few seconds...
I tried filling the filter, as much as possible, and since the filter filled quicker, I did not hear any knock...
Knock may not be the right term. But you guys know the noise I'm referencing...
