Having just purchased a 2002 F-250 4X4 SD CC XLT V-10 3.73 LS, I need help with a few questions.
1. The manual says oil capacity is 6 qts with a filter change. The dealer says 6.5 qts. Ford's Customer Service said they don't deal with technical issues. What is the right volume?
2. In trying to determine the curb weight of my truck, where can you look up weights of accessories? Ford's Customer Service suggested I go to a weigh station.
3. The tires which came with the vehicle were Firestone LT265/75RX16E OWL All-Terrain. I installed Ford splash guards purchased from the dealer. The tires rub on the front splash guards during turns. Everything was done in accordance with the instructions. Are these tires too big for splash guards?
Otherwise, a great vehicle. Rides like a top. This forum is very enjoyable. Thanks to everyone.
When I change my oil, I prefill the filter as much as I can before installing it. This usually takes about 1/2 Qt. When I add the other 5 1/2 Qts (when I buy 6) it goes up to about 1/3rd the way on the crosshatched area on the dipstick. (between min and max) Usually another 1/2 Qt brings it up to the max mark. So... 6 qts will get the oil level to the "safe" range on the dipstick. If you want to add a little more to the "max" level that's OK too but no more.
Really the best way to determine your actual weight is to have it weighed.
Many folks are adding larger tires than the 265's without lifts and have no rubbing. I don't know why yours would rub.
I have a 2002 F250 SD SC V10 3.73LSD Auto Lariat and just changed the oil for the first time. I put 6 quarts of Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 20W-50 and the dipstick showed halfway in the safe area. I have left it at this level so far but I am considering adding another 1/2 quart.
I installed molded spashguards from Cabelas and haven't had any trouble with a tire rubbing. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. You were more helpful and knowledgeable than Ford's Customer Service.
The splash guards I spoke of were of the molded type, manufactured by Highland for Ford. Only one side hit the tire during turns. Highland had a 1-800 number and an engineer who explained that the plastic in the wheel wells can shift, causing a lack of clearance. Trimming one of the spacers was all that was needed, and sure enough it worked.
Now the only remaining problem is a father-in-law who thinks that if it isn't a Toyota, it isn't any good. And that bigger isn't always better. But his daughter (my wife) loves my Super-Duty!
