Diff covers....

Can't believe I forgot this. I had to do some hauling this past weekend and while checking everything over I found this:

Talked to the local dealer and the next day I swapped it for this:

Much prettier

Well, certainly less oily on the outside. I know it's cheaper, but I still prefer the mag hy-tech look.

You can buy 4 of the factory aluminum diff covers for the price of one mag tech. Wasn't a hard choice for me.

Copy that.
I'll keep the extra $150 every time. I got a kid in college!

Nice mod. BTW.

I'll be getting the '08 cover when I get a chance to put my 4.30s in. The other aluminum covers are retardedly expensive, and I am a kid in college!

Where did you get this??? How much did it cost??? I cannot justify a Maghitech and I think this one looks just fine. My truck is lifted and frankly the pumpkin is, well ... ugly. (the one under the truck...)
Thanks,

Local Ford dealer for $59. Go to FTEPartGuy's website if you don't need it today. He has em for $42ish plus shipping. I'd hurry before Ford catches on and starts raising the price like they did with the 08 Mirrors.

Thanks fivonut,
Do you have any suggestions on installation? I will probably need new gaskets and new fluid. Any suggestions about diffy fluid for the SD?

I got mine from DieselManor. DieselManor - Ford Sterling Differential cover Comes with new longer bolts with the extra corrosion resistant plating. S&H was around $9.

You don't use a gasket, just RTV. It should come with the longer bolts. Fluid -synthetic with additive, or make life easier and just use Royal Purple. RP already has additive in it.

It does not come with longer bolts. You have top buy separately. I went to my local hardware store and got (12) 5/16 X 18 X 1" grade 5 bolts and washers for $1.5x / lb. No gasket, I used an RTV called The Right Stuff ( I swear by it ). There's a tag on the diff that calls for 75W-150 synthetic. Can't tell you exactly how much, I bought a 2 gallon container of it and used at least 1/2.
