Like I said, I needed it ASAP. I didn't have time to wait for it to get shipped to me. My dealer had it next day and I wasn't about to pay another $40 for the Ford bolts. If your concerned about buying from site sponsors, I had suggested FTEpartsguy, who is also a site sponsor and shipped to your door you're looking at $51, which leaves you with a $21 difference to go hardware shopping and buy gas. It doesn't really matter, I prefer to get the most for my money, I've used this hardware before on another car and after ten years there's not even a spot of rust on it. If people are willing to spend the extra money just for the sake of simplicity then go for it. The economy needs the support!!!
I don't understand how the 21$ turned into $40? Seems like we ruffled your underwear a little bit. But, not everyone needs it as quick as you did. And it would suck to install it and use the wrong hardware(not that you did) from Ace or where ever and have it corrode. I'm money savy too, but I also only prefer to do things once. I paid $62 for my cover kit.
You can buy the factory bolts for the cover direct through Ford. They are $$$$$. Since I was buying a cover through Ford without bolts and I did not want to spend the extra $40 for their bolts, my only choice was to go shopping.
This doesn't need to be turned into a pissing match. Some people are willing to pay $$ for convenience, so be it. I am not, so I went shopping and saved some coin. Anybody reading this thread and contemplating the Ford factory cover route now know that they have at least 3 good options:
Buy from Diesel Manor (site sponsor) bolts included - $77 shipped.
Buy from FTEparts guy (site sponsor) - $52 shipped (get your own hardware)
Buy from local Ford dealer (not really a sponsor but would we be here without them?) - MSRP $59 no need to ship, get your own hardware.
I bought the diff cover, radiator hoses, thermostat and a few other things from FTEpartsguy with shipping to central NC for less than the aftermarket hoses would have cost at Autozone in town and they showed up faster than the parts from Autozone would have. I will say I did spend another $35 for 316L SS allen head bolts and washers from Grainger. 3 months later everything still looks great and FTEpartsguy is great guy to buy from. Thanks for the good prices, reasonable and fast shipping.
Forgot to ask if anyone has found a decent looking front diff cover for a similar price to the rear cover (this is referencing something that would fit a 2001 f250 4X4).
I like the aluminum ford cover on the rear, but I think I'd go with something stonger for the front. like this; Rugged Rocks Off Road and Communications - Do It On The Rocks
<TABLE class=productListing cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=productListing-odd><TD class=productListing-data>SAI-SA60 </TD><TD class=productListing-data align=middle> </TD><TD class=productListing-data> Solid Axle - Dana 60 Differential Cover </TD><TD class=productListing-data align=right> $114.95 </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Since the truck is usually going forward.

The bolts through Ford are big bux. The cover ALONE through Ed is the best price I've seen anywhere, but you have to go find your own bolts, or pucker up and buy em from Ford.
