so whats the census take off the foil or keep it on
If there's a power loss because of it, you'll have to have a dyno to know it, and I haven't lost a bit of mileage so I'd say it won't hurt and it's a personal preference. Me? I'll take it off my next one too.
Shiny looks better, plus I'd imagine that the spider puts a lot of heat back into the air going into the engine.
The only way we can really find out the difference would be a dyno (to get actual power loss/gain) or have someone measure the temp at both ends of the pipe before and after foil removal to see just how much of a difference there is. Where's Gene when we need some technical info??
Gene never dynoed crap. However, I am coming to see a lot of his prophesies come to fruition.
Damn, Mike. I have no idea what you just said, but I have felt both pipes after just shuting down the engine, and there is a difference in the heat of the intake and exhaust of the IC pipes. With as much air going though the pipes, I think the air is keeping the pipe cooler then the manifold is trying to heat it up.
We are talking simple pyhsics here. You did not just pull up in the driveway pushing 1200* of EGTs. Start pushing some HP and get on a dyno. Of course I am probably full of it.
I don't think the pipe is seeing all that 1200`temp as suggested. As i mentioned I used rustoleum with no discolor (as of yet). Plus as i look down near the manifold there is way more things that would melt first before my paint would fade. For an example there is a 42pin connector harness that droops pretty close to the manifold with a plastic covering on it. The plastic and wires are not melting and it would if it sees 1200` with no air moving through.
I pull my camper. Everything is hot to the touch in the compartment. With the hood shut there is alot of air moving through there especially when moving down the road. I have even been stuck in traffic, I have seen 1050 temps (i won't go over that)and the regular rustolem is still good. The plastic wheel liner isn't far away either. I seen no drop in MPG or felt a drop in HP from this. My Compartments looks nice and clean without the foil and i have a slightly louder whistle. Ony disadvantage i see is my scar from ripping a finger open tearing that crap off. Plus i found a crack from were it was hitting the pump bolt that i would not have found if i left it on.
