I was washing my 2004 Super Crew today and noticed that in the rear wheel wells, the paint is peeling off considerably on both sides. I did not notice this when I washed the truck about two weeks ago. Has anyone else had this problem with their truck?
yea i have the same problem too, on my 2004 reg cab. i also have rust bubbles forming on the out side of the fender. dont bother trying to take it to the dealer to have them look at it cause if its out of the factory warranty they politely tell you to go away lol! im actually thinking about spraying some undercoating in my rear wheel wells to prevent any more paint loss and rust from happening in the future
go to your local Line-x dealer and see what they have to say. they have a new primer with a rust arrestor and coating it is much better looking and tougher than any spray on undercoating you can buy. they did my old f-150 for $150.00
the warranty is actually 6 years unlimited miles. but it only covers perferation which is BS cause how do rust bubbles form when the layer of paint isn't disturbed? surface rust isn't covered, flaking paint is classified as a "paint defect" and is only covered by the original 3 yr/36,000 warranty. My bumpers rusted out on the back after only a year and i was told that i was SOL and if it "perferated" the surface then it would be covered.

Hello Mercman86- my warranty says 5 years unlimited miles for corrosion. Where did you get 6 ? Was this a special warranty? Also, my pride and joy 04 F-150 XLT with less than 60K miles has rusted through where the right front inner wheel well is welded to the frame. And like all the rest I've been reading about, it doesn't matter that this should NEVER have happened, the company line is the same, "sorry, but..." I never use the truck for off roading, and we don't have salt on our roads. I've never before experienced this on any Ford I've owned.
That is what the service manager at my local dealer told me. Could he be wrong, probably. But thats just what i was told. They gave me the heave ho too, but my trouble spot hasnt gotten any worse, i make sure that when it snows that I wash out the wheel wells really good to get the salt outta there.
