2001 Excursion Limited V10 Upgrades...

On my $3,000. budget list so far:

Freeflow Catalytic Converter
Flowmaster CatBack Exhaust
K&N Filter
Pulleys
Jacobs Ignition
Computer Chip
4.10/4.88 Gears

Stage II?
Supercharger
Headers

Looking for 90+HP to get up to 400HP.

I don't tow anything and I rarely carry much weight or passengers.

I want power, acceleration, launch & speed.

I'll be running street tires (305's/315/s) on stock 16" 5 spoke factory wheels.

Would appreciate any suggestions, pros VS cons, etc..

Thanks!

Do the gears first!!!! They'll eat up most of your 3K budget will give you the biggest bang for your buck for what you're wanting.
I want power, acceleration, launch & speed.
Then get a tuner to correct everything.

Have fun!

You dont tow, you dont carry many passengers? I am not being silly, but why did you you buy an Excursion? Acceleration , launch and speed are in the .....say..........Mustang category. You will never be impressed with the acceleration of an 8000 lb vehicle. But Excursions are cool..................LOL.

Thanks.

Gears are definately first on my list (although the childish side of me wants the exhaust first! LOL ).

LOL Why? Because I like having the biggest baddest SUV on the road!

At least once a week I see my daughters and I actually use this truck for work most times.

Ultimately, I just love how it looks, it's comfort, it's size, it's mass, it's ability to pay for itself when I work with it, the image it presents to my customers (I'm a Roofing Contractor) and I love the fact that when it snows, I'll be able to handle whatever mother nature hurls at me.

I want it to perform great for a large SUV. There's just so much potential with a V10 under the hood 4 tons or not. It's like a caged lion...it just needs to be released.

Yeah...(in a Beavis & Butthead voice)..."Cool!"

LOL!

I especially love the way these little Japanese rockets think twice before thinking about cutting me off in traffic. I wave them in and tell them to see if they could make it! They digress!

When I drive my Ex down the road, it's like Moses parting the Red Sea!

LOL!

Right now, my exhaust is giving up the ghost so it's got this nice raspy sound! So far, I'm thinking about going with Flowmaster Series 40's (since they are supposedly the most unrestricted/loudest of the series).

For speed, I prefer (hold the stones and don't cast them! LOL ) Trans Ams (though my next rod will be a Vette).

My goal is to get my fullsize SUV to perform at least as good as the best stock SUV is doing. Today, that seems to be the Caddy with 0-60 times of 6.8 weighing in at about 3K less than the Ex, if I can get it down to at or below 8, I'd be content with that.

I just did the FM 40 and after a few days of breaking in all I can say is NICE!!! I love to floor it just to hear how nice it sounds.. I had the FM40 on my 07 EL and it sounded nothing like the X. For a cheap mod I would say go for it!!!

Flowmasters sound nice, but the airflow is TERRIBLE. Amongst the worst of the worst in the aftermarket muffler world. If you really like the chambered sound (that is a very nice sound!) I say look into the hooker aerochamber. Very similar chambered muffler sound, but significantly better flow. (still no really high flow race muffler, but leaps and bounds ahead of the flowcrapster 40 series) I had the aerochamber on my LT1 trans am and have heard it on a few other vehicles and that is one of the best mufflers I have ever heard and it can flow respectably. The aerochamber is the best mufler for the crowd wanting a muffler with some sound but not rediculous under light throttle and cruise, but has some real growl when you get on it, very deep aggressive tone.

Remember this big V10 is breathing through 1 lonely muffler and revs fairly descently for what it is. At 300+ horse power levels you are usually going through 2, you need something thats gonna move a lot of air through 1 muffler.

Heres a thread on here about the aerochambers https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...o-chamber.html
