Adjustable shocks? Rancho 9000?

Just wondering whats all out there for adjustable shocks for our 2wd 150's. The rancho's are $160 each out here. Just wondering if there is anything else worth looking at for adjustables?

Holy Crap! The RS9000's are only $100 down here. Have you looked at the edelbrock shocks? I dont know what they cost, but I believe they are adjustable as well.

yea really, summit racing sells them rancos for $100. I think your gonn get ripped off if you buy those at your parts store. the edelbrock shocks are "inertia sensitive" and tighten or loosen depending on the road.

ever think about air bad assists? im gonna buy some front ones for my 2wd ($80) and I'll tell you if they are worth it or not.

I have been doing a bit more reasearch on the rancho's it seems they are meant only for extreem offroad, and don't dial down enough for street use. I have thought about air shocks, but I don't realy think the shock mounts would be the greatest at weight bearing.

Yeah canada kind of sucks hard for getting a decent price on anything, or even having anything availible.

I put those airbag assists on my truck from Air Lift, they are amazing! pump them up to 50PSI for a rock solid ride for heavy loads or bump them down to 10 PSI for a smooth ride, I think they have a better ride than no bags!

I recommend these airbags or maybe those edelbrock or Bilstein shocks. Something that will last, my brother installed cheap-o gabriel shocks... maybe 500 miles before they died.

Air bags and shocks do two completely different jobs in the suspension. They are not interchangeable for eachother.

Air bags are suspension aids, ie: helper springs. They aid in supporting the weight of the vehicle when loaded. They do nothing to control bounce.

Shocks damp axle movement, ie: they control bounce by slowing down the axle movement. They do nothing to support the weight of the vehicle.

On the shocks issue, the Ranchos are great, I have had them on the rear axle of my F350 for a long time now with various different loads on the truck. The adjustable damping feature is useful, as long as you're not too lazy to get down there and adjust them.

I also have Bilstein shocks on the front axle of the same truck and they work very well, without any need for adjusting. Of course the front axle weight doesn't change much when the truck is loaded or unloaded so there really isn't much need for adjustable damping on the front axle.

Anyhow, either shock will work well. Keep in mind these are performance shocks so the ride will be a little harder than the cushy worn out stock shocks you're replacing.

It was a few years ago but I got my Ranchos for about $75 each and the Bilsteins were about $60 each, bought both at the local off road supply. Was either 4-Wheel Parts or Off Road Warehouse. They're both online so you could order them and have them shipped for alot less than buying them locally at the rediculus price you posted earlier.

well spring rate does effect the ride quality/characteristics. Not the same as a shock but still....
