Shocks

Howdy!

I am thinking of finally doing the shocks on my truck. I am leaning towards the Ranchos.

I know there are the adjustable ones and the non-adjustable ones. I do ZERO towing and just drive the truck around in town and to get me here to there. Nothing fancy. Which shocks do you guys think I should lean towards, and where is the best price on them right now?

If anyone thinks Ranchos aren't for me, just let me know!

Thanks in advance for any advice! Good to have you guys helping me out before I blow $$

I know you will get a variety of opinions on shock brands, but when you decide to buy, check out ShockWarehouse.com, I have heard lots of good things about them from other FTE members. If you do go with Rancho, I think they are having a promo right now that includes $100 debit card when you buy (4) RS9000XL shocks or $50 debit card when you buy (4) RS5000 shocks. I saw that at RockAuto.com, but I think it is good at any Rancho retailer.

As a follow up question...

I'm curious, for the adjustable shocks, how easy is it to get to the dials once installed... I took a quick glance @ my truck and thought....wouldn't it be a bitch to get to the dials if they were mounted facing up? I remember reading somewhere that a user mounted the shocks "upside down" to get to the dials.... Is that safe?

Thanks!

Looking @ both sites...it looks like rockauto has the best prices, and it appears the shocks come with the boot if ordered from there!

RANCHO Part # RS999267
RANCHO Part # RS999266

Looks like those are the ones to go for....

Still waiting to hear on a little more feed back, perhaps better prices or hell maybe even coupons

My 0.02, stick with Rockauto, Ed the parts guy, or any other site
sponsor of FTE. I've ordered stuff from several of the other
site sponsors and have NEVER had an issue.

I bought my 4 new shocks 2 or 3 months ago from RockAuto.com.
They were in stock, got $100 debit card from rancho (already spent it btw)
came with the boots & cable ties in a few days.
All 4 shocks came in their boxes, stuffed in another tight fitting box
so they didn't shift around and break out through a poorly packed box.

Some other folks found a cheaper source (4 wheel online - I think)
and waited and waited, they were on back-order.
Plus the person reported 1 came all rusted.
I've had terrible results from JCWhitney also (all the shocks broke
though their boxes and the other box - they used PAPER to pack them!)
I did get a full refund, but what a pain - all the hardware was lost too.

The dials are reachable from underneath w/o much trouble.
The biggest problem is telling (remembering) where they
are set and then turning them the way you want, the amount
you wanted.

I preset them to 5 before I installed them and have been happy with
them so far. I don't tow much, but I do haul stuff for work sometimes.

Ok I think I may have found my deal.....

Assuming Autoanything is a good place....

My capital one no hassles reward card gives me 7% cash back on purchases from that site if I use that particular credit card.
Total for all 4 shocks $399.80 (about $12 more than rockauto)
Apply the 10% off for first time buyers brings it down to $359.82
Apply the 7% cash back to my credit card brings it down to $334.63
Fill out the form (The rebate appears to work from any site) brings it down to $234.63. I can't go wrong with that!

You can get the 5100 series Bilstein Shocks from Autozone WITH a lifetime warranty. Something unheard of before last year....

Just a heads up if you thinking of the bilstein route...
