I have a 95 F250 Farm Truck (read I haul gravel, manure and tow a 4000# horse trailer).
The guy a the 4x4 shop said the Adjustable Rancho Shocks were high quality. But I blew out both rears when pulling my trailer, just calves, not draft horses
Can anybody suggest a good make of shocks that can take hard work.
And it could be your leafsprings are just shot. Shocks are not meant to carry weight. The leafsprings carry the weight and the shocks are used to dampen the ride.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jul-02 AT 08:15 PM (EST)]I would agree with the assumption your springs are shot also. Monroe, Pro Comp, and most other shock manufacturer's package very nearly the same crap (I have Pro Comp's best and I'm not impressed).
FOr the "Best" quality? Besides Rancho, I'd say perhaps Tokico if you can get them for your truck.
A 'Better to Best' shock (than the Monroe & Pro Comp level of common shocks) would seem to be KYB.
But again, I bet your leaf springs are just moving way too much and are worn. Has it been used to haul loads (like stones) since it was new?
(Edited part: Oh yeah - you mentioned "Adjustable" Ranchos... first, you may very well have had them 'adjusted' to the wrong end of their working adjustability for your loads/roads, plus I'd have gone with the more rugged, simple design of a non-adjustable shock - say Rancho's best shock without the adjustment ability. I think I'd try to talk to another Rancho expert somehwere. How about the actual Rancho people themselves?)
