Smile leviticus 19:28

Is a tat a sin ? Yes. Is it the wrong thing to do ? Yes. Are you condemded to hell for ? I'm not the one who gets to make that decesion, but I would guess not. We all fail to keep the law in some fashion, none of us is perfect. The fellow who thought you were doomed didn't understand the reason some of the laws are given to us. Leviticus 11:7, IIRC, says not to eat or even touch a pig. Does that mean we get sent to damnation because we ate a ham sandwich ? No, I think that sort of thing is in the law because your Creator knows what is and isn't good for you. Ham isn't good for you to eat, you should choose a clean meat instead. That law was given for your health. Tatoos won't kill you or send you to the hot place, but they will in all likelyhood cost you some opourtunities in the here and now. Your Creator doesn't want you to look like one of the unwashed heathens. If you aren't claiming to be one of his, then do what you want. But there are folks who will think less of you, and if you make the choice to get tattoed, you have to realize that in advance. But the Mrs and I don't have any, and I hope we would be looking at repair jobs if we had them. I am rather large, and have long hair, but I can get a haircut and diet alot easier than a tat can be lasered off. DF, @ his Dad's house

Ther are also health risks associated with tattoos and body piercings. (there are health risks with everything) An example, I donate blood an a regular basis. One question they ask is have you had any tattoos or body piercings since your last donation? If so, then they won't accept your donation. I'd say after a certain time period, they will accept your donation, I just don't know what time frame you're looking at.

That' fine. Most that don't like them, respect others decisions that do like them. (that's me) There are some, as stated in the post that started this thread, that go out of their way to point out what they think is wrong with you. I would never do that. Most people won't. As long as you're not hurting someone else, do what you want. However, what some of us are also saying, with every choice you make, there are consequences for your actions. A tattoo in a discrete place that no one will see unless you choose to reveal it, no one will ever know. Putting them in areas that you don't cover, COULD, (not saying it will) result in some negative reactions towards you. Your job or profession could be adversely affected by doing that. I'm sure there are some with tattoos that have seen some tattoos on other folks make them say, or at least think, that's a little overboard.

Orins wife Michelle again. To campspringjohn I agree with you about putting them in a cover spot. As to mine, it is. And only a few people have seen it. Some people that have seen mine did not like it. But I have to repect them for their opionion, even if I don't like it.

I'm with Ken on this. I don't really have much issue with discreet tats that can be covered. But, as a businessman who regularly goes into customer's homes, I personally wouldn't hire anyone who had overtly visible tattoos, particularly those of a graphic or explicit nature. As for the stats Ken posted, I've seen those very things in action in the construction industry--the more heavily tattooed a person is, the more likely they are to be unreliable in some form or fashion--be it poor work habits, drugs, alcohol, etc. The bottom line is that visible and excessive tattoos and piercings do not convey professionalism. Why? Because that is the majority's perception. When conducting a business, one generally wants to keep one's potential market as large as possible, and if most of that market doesn't trust tattoo-wearers, then one wouldn't hire those with visible tattoos.

I would guess that either cough up more money for repair work, wear a long sleave shirt or risk looking a little retarded.

The above photo is supporting evidence that tattoos can provide other people with a filter as well. Anyone walking around with that tattoo might as well put "I'm stupid" on their arm! At least it would be easier to spell for them! If I ever got a tattoo it would be something to reflect my sense of humor, a small "hang tag here" on my right big toe. No plans to do it though... not my style.

Ken, I have to admit that though I wouldn't my sense of humor gave way to an idea years back of having a little guy pushing a lawnmower up the back of my head as I have been bald for years and shave off what remains any way

Frankly, I don't know anyone who would dismiss someone solely because of tattoos who on the same token would not hire them to interact with customers in a business environment if they had visible tattoos. Your personal statements are your business. If they have the potential to impact sales they are your bosses business. Obviously that doesn't apply in all environments, but it does in many.

I'd hire an inside sales or back office person with a tattoo in a heartbeat. I've hired 3 employees in the last 12 years with tats but would not hire someone to interact with customers if they had a tattoo across the back of their hand. The business world is often very conservative when it comes to "fashion" and when in Rome...
This better explains your view than when you first wrote about not hiring people with tattoos. Good post.

Admittedly some of my posts this past week have been done from my PDA instead of my desktop... I don't review/edit them quite so much for readibility because the PDA's tiny screen is a PIA!

I don't think that tattoos are a "fad" and it will definatley not ever go away. They found tattoos on cavemen from 4 to 5 millennium BC. Something that been around that long is not going to go away.
