I want to know everyones thoughts on tattoos. I had a guy come up to me at Wal-mart tonight and tell me I was going to hell for having tattoos. I was as nice as I could be but after hearing him say the devil had me in his fingers 15 times,I had enough and went off on him. Let me know Good, Bad or Indifferent. Are tattoos really that bad?
In Austin there was a guy who used to stand on a milk crate in his boxers and a top hat, saying everyone was going to hell. I kind of stopped listening to crazies after seeing that dude.
I have two myself. They are on my leg. They dont get much exposure because I a a jeans a shirt type guy. Ive never been a fan of shorts. Being Military, pretty much everyone I know has at least one Tat. Its kind of a right of passage almost.
I don't think that tattoos are a "fad" and it will definatley not ever go away. They found tattoos on cavemen from 4 to 5 millennium BC. Something that been around that long is not going to go away.
Well I did not mean that tattoo's have just been invented. I meant that tattoo's were worn by people who had some reason to get them. Bikers, sailors, strippers, folks like that. The proliferation of regular, every day folks now getting tattoo's simply points to it being a fad, and there is no denying that. It is the same with all the piercings. They are being done by people with low self esteem who feel they have to stand out from the crowd to be noticed. If you are confident in yourself, you do not need to be noticed.
Along with the internet, and global warming! My hero. Some day I want to grow up and be just like him. Convince people there is a threat that don't exist, and make millions off the scam.

To say people with tats have low self-esteem is just nuts. Do you seriously believe that? Blanket statements like that are made by people that have no idea what motivation people may have. Nor do they typically care to.
Personally, I duplicated a tattoo (on my 50th birthday) that my Dad had. My motivation was, and is, a tribute to him and to display my pride to have him as my father. In fact, this evening (today being my 55th birthday) I will fix up a Crown & 7 with two wedges of lime. Sit on the deck. Light up a good cigar....And have a wonderful conversation with him...as is my birthday tradition.
Crazy? Maybe. Low self-esteem? I don't think so.

wow low self esteem...... you are way shallow UNSUBSCRIBED!!!!!!!!!!
There are studies backing up that they are more likely to be suffering from depression. People need to separate their own personal feelings and/or circumstances from the broad, overall trend data and look at it for what it is: statistical data.
The peoblem with generalizations is there are always exceptions, perhaps plenty of exceptions. As stated earlier, many in the armed forces have tattoos. Do I think they have a low self esteem? Of course not! And I'm sure there are plenty of others that have tattoos and also have a good feeling of self worth. But some that do have tattoos and body piercings do have a low self esteem. I don't know the percentage, but they do exist. I believe it would be best to help those folks out, rather than beat them down even more. (oh my God, that's a liberal approach!)
I have received an infraction (2 points) for the use of foul language...and on my birthday, too...Shame on me. Especially as a former mod I knew better. Apologies to anyone that may have been offended.
For any moderator,
For the benefit of myself any maybe others. What does a 2 point infraction mean? I see where it lasts for almost a year (well mine anyway) but, I cannot find an explanation of this point system anywhere. I surmise that it is cumulative and some infractions weighted more value than others. But, I cannot find how many points it takes to have privileges suspended or removed. Is there a published criteria or is it a subjective thing? A link, if available, would be helpful.....thanks.
