hello, i would just like to ask a couple of ?'s about these two motors. i know they both use the small bell, but do they both use the same mounts? or the motor stands?
They are identical for mounts, windsor is taller and slightly wider-hell even the 351C has the same engine mounts and bellhouseing bolt pattern. At least thats what I know-from messing with the Fox body mustangs of the 80's.
You must mind the balance... I forget the exact dates but the 70's stuff should be 28 ounce out of balance, vrs, the newer early 80's? 50 oz. out of balance.
For exhaust-it is different, even though the bolt pattern is the same on the heads-351w is wider and taller-then of course the accessories-same but different for bolt on.
Hope that helps

Welcome to FTE
The engine mounts stands (aka perches, supports, brackets) for 1969/79 F100's & 1975/79 F150's w/302's // 1977/79 F100/350's w/351M/400's (2WD only) are the same.
D0TZ-6028-A .. Right & DOTZ-6029-A .. Left stands for a 302 were replaced by D7TZ-6028-B & D7TZ-6029-B, the R/L stands for 351M/400 (2WD).
The rubber mounts are engine specific. 302 rubber mounts are not the same as 351M/400's.
No Ford F Series truck used a 351W till 1981. No F Series truck used a 351C.
1975/91 Econolines came with 351W's, but Econoline rubber mounts or stands from any year will not work on F Series trucks.
1980 and later engine mount stands won't work on 1979 and earlier F Series trucks.
the truck we might be doing this swap in is a 86 f150 4x4 with older carbed 302 but i was just asking in general because there is a 2wd dentside at the shop with a bad 302, and in time would like to put a 351w in its place.

The 351W is a bolt in. The only thing you will have to change would be the exhaust, and possibly the harmonic balancer and flexplate. The 302 rubber mounts are the same as the 351W. If you look at my gallery, I have an 86 F150 4X4, that came with a EFI 302, that now has a carb'd 351W. Like the others said, you need to be carefull with the balance. I had to get a 28oz imbalance flexplate, and a 28oz imbalance harmonic balancer, because my 351W was a 70's model.
Yes I just did the same swap in my 76. I had to modify the exhaust for the wider 351W and I also had to swap my waterpump off my 302 because the 351 exited the wrong side. That could be a year thing though Im not sure. The 351 was a 1980.
Is anybody experienced with doing this swap with the manual trans. (NP435) as opposed to the automatic? If so, any particular differences to be aware of?
