Here's a mystery (to me). The passenger side window stopped working (from either door switch) a week ago. No motor sounds. The driver side worked OK, both up and down. Now, driver window stopped as well. (Lucky for me both are in up position.) Neither goes down, and I hear neither motor working. I swapped out the metal 20A CB(14) with no change. I'm not sure how to proceed; any help much appreciated since I use the truck for work.. (My thread searches have not turned up this particular problem.) Thanks.
It may be the switch on the drivers door. I just did some research on this. I would also use a meter to make sure that you are getting power to the switch, and that there aren't any broken wires.
KRL. You gotta get get in ther with a continuity tester or a multi meter. You are wasting money and time by replacing parts. Gotta get to the issue. Most likely a broken/loose/corroded connection or wire.
Wm55: Thanks for your reply. I haven't replaced any parts yet.
Removed both door panels and all wires look tight and are in excellent condition. Also, no visible corrosion.
Wondering why the passenger side stopped working a week before the driver side. No motor sounds from either side. Can I check power to the window motors without pulling each from the door? Suggestions appreciated. Thx.
Check power coming into the switches and out from the switches. The motors plug into the switches making it pretty easy to check for power coming into and out from the motors. Checking those will tell you where the issue is. Power coming in means that the issue is up stream. No power means the issue is down stream. If a switch is getting power but not sending power, remove the switch and put one of the others in its place to see if that solves the issue. You can find switches at the junk yard, eBay, etc. The wires inside the rubber boot between door and body sometimes break. The above tests will tell you if you need to check there.
If you need to fix a wire do it right, with crimp on butt connectors and shrink tubing.
Search YouTube for videos and this forum for power window/electrical troubleshooting. It's easier and generally more productive to do a google search for your issue. Just add "ford-trucks.com" to the end of your query.
These clips are more durable than the ones from Dorman. If you remove the plastic liner get some 3M spray adhesive to stick the plastic back on. Make sure to mask around the area to be sprayed as the sticky stuff gets all over.
As long as you are in the door make sure that the mirror fasteners are tight. Now would also be the time to replace the door bulbs. Consider LED.
Best of luck with your journey. It's actually pretty easy after you've done it once.
Since you already have the door panels off, unplug the window motor and check for power with a multimeter or test light. One wire is power and the other ground and they reverse function when the switch is pressed in the other direction. If you don't have power then go back to the switch(es).
Switches seem OK. The driver side window is now working. Looks like the pass. side motor is bad. A bigger job. I'll R&R eventually.
Thanks for all the help.
I doubt the motor went bad. It sounds like you have a wire short. Look at the green and yellow wire coming down on the drivers side and going into the door. More than likely there is a broken wire in that bundle. All of your power stuff comes off of this wire. Move the wire around while testing the connector with a meter. I just changed mine out.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't believe the window motor went bad. They get a lot of use and do wear out.
I had the same problem with my 88 took it apart and it worked while off, then not when I put it back together. Problems was the motor was to tight against the gearbox
