Ok. Stumped. How do i get this cover off. Want to start working on TC Lock Mod. I don't want to scratch up and make it looked hacked. I tried with a butter knife/etc. Poking and such. no luck. Can't reach it from the underside.
it just snaps in there. it may feel as if something is going to break as you pull it away from the main part of the dash. start near the headlight switch side and work your way across poping the snap clips. It was hard to do the first time cause i thought i was going to break it but it didn't. I don't remember if the stock stereo comes out at the same time or not. i did this when installing a aftermarket stereo. Hope this helps...
1) Pull out the stock stereo. You'll need a removal tool, and you can find that at Wal-mart or some car stereo shops. The removal tool is two U-shaped metal pieces that hook in on each side, pull outward, then slide the stereo out. Some have been lucky with just a coat hanger, but I tried it and it didn't work on mine.
2) After the stereo is out, look at the upper lip where the stereo was. There are two screws. These are the only 2 screws that hold the dash cover on. Remove the screws, and the rest of the dash cover unclips out. Pull a section at a time.
3) Don't forget about the electrical connectors mounted on the dash cover. Unplug those if you plan to take the dash completely out of the truck.
It shows that part with the 4WD selector switch opening cut out directly from the panel. I made the vertical rectangular hole, but the other one beside it is from the factory. One of the photos shows the area where Ford apparently used a router bit to open this hole, and it has rather rough edges, not smooth molded ones.
