I want to make a new tool for my box. Like the injector break out box. But this one will be more simpler. I want to plug into my under valve cover harness to check glow plug and injector ohms.. I am looking for a connector that will plug in there. Local wrecking yards don't have one i can rip off. Any of you have one laying around ?
Wow, Thanks Chris.I will give them a call on Monday and see what the price would be from them. That one shows a different clip thing on the connector than what i have on my truck also but i think it will still work. . The picture below is what i have and what this picture has. "note this"
I also found this from motorcraft. Looks like it but the clip looks different like it is missing something.
I hope I'm wrong, Dan, but in your picture it appears that the locking portion of the UVCH is broken off and stuck into the pigtail plug lock area. It's been a while since I had one of these apart so don't remember exactly what they look like but I'm sure someone else will offer advice on that.
In the picture from Chris the Valve cover gasket looks exactly as mine does.
The picture of the wiring harness in post #2 came from ebay search i found. And that plug looks exactly as my connectors look. They have a little tab in the center of the connector. It jiggles like it wants to come out. But i can't get it it out. The Pictures from Chris and Motorcraft.com, don't show the little tabs in the center. But i think it will still work the same.
Here is my own trucks connector.
Were i got the motorcraft connectors. (all pdf's) Found mine on #2 under Eight-Cavity Connectors. not sure why. There are 9 pins.
If you are using the pigtail just for testing, then there shouldn't be a problem. If it was used for normal use, it could come loose if it wasn't locked into place. I see the difference in the two plugs but have no explanation of the difference.
Sometimes there is a lock for the latch. Could that be what is in the middle of the plug?
It would be very easy to add to a breakout box if you have already made one, all that would be needed is to make a small jumper inside the box with a socket to each injector wire to the outside of the box, from each of the injector wires (on injector side of switch, so the switches wont effect reading) that you can connect a meter to. Then find the injector return or ground and run it into the box and use another socket with jumper.
Instead of having to have two tools to have to connect to do testing, it can all be done from one box.
As far as glow plug testing, you could also run more jumpers to the box with more sockets and use the battery as the ground connection.
It all may have to go into a bigger box, but it will be clean and if you label it, it will be simple to use.
Interesting Idea.. Have to think about that.. Seeing i made a break out box already.
I just was thinking of the connectors so i can snap them in on both sides and have the connection sittinging on the gril to measure all the ohms for checking the UVC Harness/glowplugs/injectors.
Question on the breakout box- is the 42 pin connector wired the same for 99-03 or does it change some based on year? Just wondering if I made one if I could use it on other rigs or not.
