dealing with spring thaw I'd say... friggin' mess, water every where, trying to get into all the wrong places... Jobsites are a muddy hell, hopefully the heat and dry continues...

Yeah good call Morris, now that snowmobiling season is done, it cant get warm fast enough! I have my bike all taken apart and getting it ready for paint, cannot wait to ride it! Im in the process of trying to get a different bike for this summer as well. Something a little faster on the double lane.

Sherwin, you might actually know a little about these. The bike im looking at is a ktm 950 supermoto. The reason Im buying it over a super enduro (which is what I really wanted) is it is about half the price of a super enduro.

Yes I am Morris. I just have a metal tank and the rest of the panels are plastic. The frame and engine are a pain to get out and too, but should be quite easy to paint as well.

Hardest part will be taking a dent out of the tank that the previous owner put in there. I have had the tank airing out for the past few days in my big shop, and plan to wash it out with solvents, then maybe soap and water to get all the fumes out so I dont blow myself, or the tank up!

Its fun, I love working on stuff like this!

Be careful with using any type heat on that tank, even when there`s no apparent gas it can still blow up unless you get it steamed.
Years ago I had a badly dented mc tank and was lucky enough to find a good used one reasonably priced on EBay.

Yeah ive done a bi tof reading on this, and Im a little leery for sure! I would actually throw on an aftermarket acerbis tank and get a little better range, but I was planning on upgrading this year sometime, so I dont really wanna sink a lot into freshening this bike up.

Im thinking getting it steamed is actually a good idea. I wonder if a rad shop would maybe be able to do that for a guy? Not sure who else in town maybe would, any ideas?

You must be anxious to rip around on the bike this year too hey? I just bought a modular heated shield helmet on sale that is gonna be my new bike/sled helmet!

If I get a new bike thats a little better on power then my Xt600, then we should go for a burn or two this summer!

I would try a rad shop since I think they do clean tanks before working on them using any heat. Also it`s likely that most machine shops have steamers.
I am anxious to ride the bike again and a rip together would be nice. I joined the local Lonewolves mc club, it`s all types of riders of all ages.

I don't stop work for anything...except sledding, biking, quadding, hunting, and fishing I try to do most of my work inside through the winter and spring but it's still a mess getting to the house.

Love those bikes. Actually had my heart set on a KTM 990 SMT last year, but there was only one within reach at Blackfoot in Calgary and they wouldn't budge on the price. It was a tad out of my budget at 17g plus taxes. Depending on where you do your research, I've found some info lead me to believe that the KTM's are high maintenance and costly to maintain. I'm actually going to do without a street bike this year. With work shaping up to be busy and focusing on some bigger projects, I couldn't justify the expense. I did, however, just buy 2 new ATV's... Local Polaris dealer has a smoking deal on them, got 2 bikes for 1 1/3rd of the cost of 2 new ones of any other brand. Its something I can do with my wife and kids too, which they all thoroughly enjoy. Now I'm pumped for the mud runs starting up in a few weeks...
