No topic thread,,, Part 2
I actually just gave up my 90+ mpg bike for something bigger haha!
It kept bothering me, so I fixed it by buying something bigger!!!
A 2005 Suzuki 600cc Katana!!
It's a very comfy bike, with a mid-range power-band and it still gets 50+ mpg!!!
Gosh darn rain!
I went for such a great ride yesterday after work, took a bunch of gravel roads that were closed due to the water taking them out, and man was it ever nice and peaceful.
I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it! only 7,XXX Kms on the thing... Pretty much in brand-new shape as well!!!
That's how I feel on my 05 suzuki! It's such a nice ride, very smooth and comfy!!!
Now lets see if I can get SGI to believe that the "touring" part of the bike is more emphasized than the "sport" to get that discount that all those touring bikes get!!!
I checked out the license for my bike just yesterday... 1,400 a year for a "sport" label on my bike... 1,050 a year for a "touring" label on my bike...
Hmm... wonder which one SGI is going to choose

Forget trying to "convince" SGI that your bike is one type or another. With the new system SGI has adopted, it automatically recognizes the classification of the bike from the VIN#. When I bought my Bandit 1250 in '09, I managed to have it registered as a touring bike, but in 2010 when SGI changed to the new system it was classed as a sport bike. In reality its somewhere in between.
Even my Harley (88ci/1450cc) is costing me 120/month on continuous payments... it doesn't get much more touring than that, but still isn't cheap.
Licensing is killing the sport and enjoyment of motorcycling. Its no longer "cheap" transportation other than the fuel economy.

A difference between 1400 and almost 1000!!! That's a HUGE difference!
And yes, the prices that SGI is now charging is ridiculous.... Bikes are meant to be cheap transportation... not a vehicle that's more expensive than your daily driver...
If you really think about it, we can understand why SGI has prices so high... The riding season only lasts 6 months! MAXIMUM!!!!
They're losing out on their money if they charge us half of what it would cost to have a motorcycle... so what do they do? CHARGE DOUBLE!!!
In my honest opinion... it's highway robbery... it's a motorcycle... if we want to be stupid and hurt ourselves on them... it's our choice... not theirs...

Thats the problem with "blanket insurance systems". A few idiots causing trouble and accidents make it difficult for everyone. I will say this, in the time that I've lived in Saskatchewan, probably a good 85% of motorcycle accidents I've seen have been caused by other motorists in passenger vehicles using poor driving methods and habits. (I was almost a victim of this last summer. Wrecked a decent back tire on my Hayabusa because of some chicky not looking, shoulder checking, or signaling before making a highly illegal right turn). The other 15% are young kids who get their learners permit and immediately run out and buy a 600cc or 1000cc sport bike. Not only do they lack the skills to handle such a bike, they don't have the mental capacity to ride within their abilities. While the graduated driver program will be a nuscience for many, it will be a life saver for some twits provided they adopt the CC restriction as well.
Ride with your brain. Thats what I tell everyone. Use maximum common sense. While riding a motorcycle is the greatest single feeling you will ever experience, don't get so relaxed and "caught in the moment" that you drop your defense.
Happy Hump Day!!! Sun is shining, its going to be a nice day!!!
I just got a "new" bike yesterday, a 88 suzuki RM 250. Got it for doing some work for a friend, so Im gonna clean er up, and try er out, hopefully this weekend.
