Gotta make hay while the sun is shinnin, they say. Usually I don't push this hard but with 2 trannies in 2 months and 5 months off with injury I gotta make some serious hay!! I miss my family time, mostly eating supper with the kids. They've been trying to hold off till I get home but i'm pushing days as long as customers can stand me being there lol. The plus is, when you pay attention to detail, you usually get more work. And when you get more work at the job(s) your currently at it's much more cost effective for the customer to do it while your in the process of being there. Hindside, family time suffers which is the only part of what I do I don't like. I'm suddenly so crazy right now, I think I'm going to make my first hire Gotta get caught up a wee bit.
Curtis, I know the feeling. Tranny feels good and truck is basically good to go except ABS light. Ford Tech said this issue is due to the larger gears and wheels. Also said that garbage generic Edge programmer fried my module. So a new module and flash required.
Trent, With my tranny having being done twice now, they found the problem. Because of the issues I had, then tuning after the computer learned to compensate for the problems it worked the computer into an unfixable scrambled mess. Basically it didn't know what to tell the transmission to do. The guys at TT burnt another one out last week testing and finally, having the computer now, reflashed the entire system. ECM, TCM, and FICM. Now, as of Friday at noon, it shifted and ran like a CHAMP. The trucks computer backed itself into a corner it couldn't find it's way out of during it's "relearn phase". Didn't help that the previous build had a damaged planitary re-installed that basically wedged 2 sets of cluthces engaged while it still went into 5-6th. Which obviously killed the tranny the 2nd time. With TT pulling the FICM tune out, no change. Then Thursday I gave them the go ahead to pull the PHP tune out of the ECM, overwrite everything and problem totally solved.
So to sum it up, having tranny issues which imo would include the abs sensor (cause its used to detect vehicle speed in place of the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) thats in the tranny according to lots i've read over the weeks) and you may want to take it to TT, have them re-flash the computer and start from scratch. One thing their learning is that no matter what tune is out there, they all seem to be pretty good. Canned tunes usually lead to alot of problems BUT at the end of the day its the actual on board computer thats important to keep updated, THEN do the tunes. Their seeing more and more trucks come in with tranny issues, TC shimmer at hwy speeds, shift flairs ect hence the reason they spend thousands on purchasing this computer to even further bullit proof their workmanship.
My case I had the banks 6 gun (canned tunes)in there with flairs slowely starting. Well over 100,000 miles with it and even PO had it in there for however long. Then I updated the FICM to get rid of that post buzz along with a 40/80/100hp tune. With more power naturally I had more slippage and the computer started compensating for it then. SO to shop it went for tranny. Ya he did the job, supposedly put parts in I requested (TT only found 2 sets of clutches i wanted) and sent it out the door. Of coarse i had same problems within 5 kms after paying the damn bill. THEN, I updated the ECM with a mild 45hp light tow/DD tune based on advise from reading and TT (losing faith in previous shops workmanship cause all he wanted to do is throw more parts at it to try and fix the problem, of which were supposed to be installed and werent) which really didn't work because the computer was already bunged up. Thought was that the tranny tune would be updated and help it relearn its way out of how bad it was. Bad planitary, clutches staying engaged/locked while in another gear put the computer in a bad place. Kinda like trying to teach an old dog new tricks, it just doesn't work sometimes lol.
Another lesson learnt the hard way for me. We will see how well the tunes go back in after break in. Tunes IMO are absolutely the way to go to get maximum long term reliability as all the tried, tested and tuned strategies are all getting very good feedback on the net from all sorts of peeps!! Definately staying with PHP as their feedback seems to be pretty close to the best out there.
Edge, unfortunately are known tranny killers, that's my opinion from what i've read while gathering info on my truck.
Curtis, you are now speaking above my mechanical knowledge. The guy the shop I deal with uses is a computer code designer over a mechanic. All I know is that my new module is probably destroyed due to me plugging Edge programmer in. As soon as I did that the ABS light came back on. Now I need a new module with another flashing. Me BAD
Both of those are good little tractors. Looking forward to the pictures.
Here they are... The Allis runs real well, the Farmall needs some tinkering. Its not firing on all cylinders, loads up and dies. I'll start with new plugs and wires, move on to the distributor and points...till I get it tip top.
Morning Everyone. 45 minutes ago it looked like a nice day, now overcast and looking like rain. My oldest daughters kindergarten graduation today. How time flies.
