No, 95% of the people out there really don't need the intake. The stock intake flows more then enough for the engine's powerband. There will be alot of people that will probably think you are nuts, but you really don't need it for the 6.0. Now for the 7.3(if you had one) then you would certainly need one, but not for the 6.0.
As to the stock intercooler, everything you see in my siggy and I'm still running the stocker. Now depending on climate you are in, it might help you more then me, but just based on the mods that you are doing right now, you shouldn't need it unless for some strange reason your stock one takes a crap on you(which is possible, unlikely, but possible).
The intercooler upgrade will be more reliable at higher boost - if / when you get head studs. The stock intercooler has been known to have the end caps come apart at higher boosts.
Some folks really love their aftermarket intercoolers - say it helps reduce EGT's. I do not think it is necessary until you go for big horsepower gains.
As far as intakes go, there have been many folks into the heavy mods that have dynoed up to 500 hp w/ stock intake and then w/ aftermarket. No gains w/ aftermarket.
Thats alot of stuff on the stock intercooler.. yeah, guess I can agree I wouldn't need it. So for the stock intake, when it comes time to replace the filter, would I be going wrong installing a Banks intake then? I stick to them on this issue because I like the stock appearance of it. Also easier to access the filter.

As far as performance goes, it nets you nothing in going with an a/m intake with just running a tuner.
Now if your argument is for reusing the filter, ease of access, looks etc, then that is up to you. It isn't needed as far as performance goes.
Also I would actually look at an AFE Stage II or a S&B intake if you just have your heart set on an intake.
You probably don't want to hear this but, put the truck back to stock condition. Lifts and bigger tires kill economy. You might luck out with a programmer but not sure. The best thing I have done is change to synthetic fluids and slow down to about 64/65 mph on the highway.
Good Luck.
.......I would actually suggest a deeper tranny pan to help cool things down.
I very seldom contradict "Tex" but for this I will, and I'll refer you to a Ford Tranny Engineer in this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...queestion.html This is some very good reading for everyone actually.
06powerstrokin: I apologize for coming off like an A$$ earlier. It's not normally my way. I'm usually pretty diligent when it comes to helping folks, but I took you for a banks "troll". I have some fairly decent experience when it comes to modding 6.0L trucks. I'm not an engineer or a tech, but I've turned a wrench or two on them.
Thanks for the apology.. I didn't mean to come off as a troll, it was just that no one had answered the original question with anything but "put it back to stock" so I figured I'd throw in my .02. I personally haven't done anything yet (though thanks to Tex and some others I think I'm on the right track now) but my buddy swears by Banks so I threw it out there. This is my first diesel truck so I'm trying to take in as much as possible. I don't have much experience on anything newer than 1986 lol

I stand corrected. Thanks for setting me straight on that. Reps coming.
EDIT: Well they were coming til the old bitty of a computer told me no.

That's what we are here for. I was in your shoes when I first joined here and thanks to alot of people who are unfortunately for whatever reason not participating here anymore helped me get the knowledge that I know have. I just hope to be able to repay that kindness to others.
What does your friend drive? Since you said that you have the only 6.0 I would assume that it would have to be something else and he might have had good success with his Banks kit due to having a different engine. 6.0s are just more temperamental then the others, but once you get one right, nothing beats them. In my humble opinion of course.
I've learned a bit so far, and can only hope to extend my knowledge. I love my truck so far, and soon plan to upgrade my membership to this forum, and get some pictures going. Definately giving Reps to everyone who's helped me by the way.
Oh and my friend drives a 07 Cummins.. Totally different I know, I was merely hoping since he had such good luck with Banks I might.
And on another note, just got my MBRP 4" single stack exhaust and X3 tuner on order from Innovative Diesel!!! Can't wait, thanks again!!!

You have a great start to a nice truck! See signature.... I'm kinda partial to your year and model
Stick around and you are sure to learn a ton about your truck here. Tex, Bismic, Partsman, and several others have helped me out a TON! A year ago I was in the same boat as you and now feel like there isnt much I cannot do with the 6.0.
Let us know when you get her put together and how she works. Also what tunes you went with

Lol oh definately, I changed my mind last minute and went with a MBRP stack kit so I definately have to show it off when I put it in. I live in south Texas but I'm in Mississippi on a pipeline job and I can't wait to get back and install it all. So far most people have been very helpful in sharing knowledge. I'm also going through Marty Garza (Overkill) for all my suspension needs.. wouldn't have known about his shop without this forum
