Where to Start

Hello,
I have a 2006 Ford F-250 with a 6 inch lift and 20 inch rims and 35 inch tires. It has 38,000 miles on it and runs great, with no problems to date. Where should I start first with mods. I would like to get more economy than horse power. What are my options without breaking the bank ?
Thanks

You probably don't want to hear this but, put the truck back to stock condition. Lifts and bigger tires kill economy. You might luck out with a programmer but not sure. The best thing I have done is change to synthetic fluids and slow down to about 64/65 mph on the highway.
Good Luck.

Yeah, let's see $375.00 a tire and $300.00 per rim and $2500.00 in the lift. It is not going back to stock anytime soon, but thanks for your input!

Lift and tires

or

fuel economy

Pick one. If you want more power, buy gauges, exhaust and tuner. Doubt you'll pick up few if any MPG.

Other than that you can slow down.

Yeah, I here you on the slowing down thing. It just sucks with diesel going through the roof. It cost me $138.00 to fill up the other day. It is a good thing I have a commuter car.
Thanks

I agree with Saftman. When you go off stock with tires. It takes more HP to get it rolling and keep it rolling. Thus worse MPG. I currently get about 19MPG stock using premium fuel and keeping the speed down.
Plus mods with engine might void the 100K engine warranty.

Don't listen to the stockers lol. First off, re-gear lower with at least a 4.11, personally I've got 4.56s with my 35s (4.5" lift) and get 13 city 20 highway. No other mods yet, but I'm FOR SURE puttin the money out for a Banks Power Pack. If you're tryin to go cheap do the simple intake and exhaust, then a programmer. Never backwards, too hot of a programmer will hurt rather than help a bone stock engine. Hope this helps.

Not bad advice, however, that will kill him going at higher speeds. This is why I'm firmly against lifts and bigger tires. Not only do they cost you in the front end, but also they cost you in the back end as well.

He asked about getting better gas mileage, not about going fast. Who wants to take a lifted 7,000lb truck over 80mph anyway? And what the HECK is sooo bad about a Banks Power Pack that I get made fun of TWICE?

First off, you lower your gears, going 70 will kill your mileage.

Banks, Edge, Bullydog etc don't properly tune your vehicle at all. Which runs a higher risk of issues that are already prone to happen on the 6.0.

If you really want a dissertation when I get back from town, I can write one up for you.

What makes you think that Banks products are the best option?

Yes, going to lower gears will kill mileage, IF you remain at stock size tires. A 35" tire will break a 4.56 gear down to about a 4.11 which was an option in the towing package. I advised this because thats what I run in my truck, and as I already mentioned it helped rather than hurt my mileage, and I drive from state to state at times for work, frequently going over 70mph.

Secondly, never did I say Banks was the best option period. Only that it is what I plan on doing. I live over an hour away from any kind of reputable shop that knows anything about tuning, and I can't afford any in-depth kind of work. My truck is my daily-driver, and all I want is a couple of bolt-on performance parts to free up a little power, nothing major. If anyone has any other knowledge, please, let me know. All I can go from is what I've done, and a couple buddies have done to their trucks and learned a hard lesson. I'm new to a diesel, and live in a smaller community where the biggest and baddest truck runs intake, exhaust and a plug-n-play superchip. Share the knowledge lol, part of why I joined this forum. My email is jd.summers@hotmail.com if anyone has helpful things to say, instead of cracking jokes.

completely stock 07 f250 6.0 king ranch srw.
I am very new to diesel and also to this site; however, I noticed in the tech folder at the very bottom under frequently asked questions that there is a lot of info in there for best mods. Hope it helps. The tech folder the guys put together has a wealth of info that has taught me all I know thus far.
