Help with injector circuit 5 low

I am working on a 2001 PSD that has an intermittent code for #5 injector circuit low. I have a scan tool and have pulled the codes and checked the icp and ipr and dont see anything out of range. the only code is for #5 injector. I pulled the uvc harness and the valve cover and replaced them and the problem still exists. I have also swapped idms with a known good one and it hasnt changed. The problem has become more intermittent. I even swapped injector solenoids with another one. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

I'm a dummy to injectors here. But maybe stick number 5 injector in the number 3 hole and the number 3 to the number 5 hole. See if you get a #3 code. Just a thought. I may be way off base here.

That will tell you in a hurry if it's an actual injector problem, or a chaffed wire somewhere.

Thanks I will try that as soon as I can get the truck back in my shop. Anyone have any of the resistance values of the injector solenoids. Or any other electrical tests that I could try? Thanks for the help

The solenoids should have about 3 to 3.5 ohms testing thru the valve cover connector. You can also test the wiring with an ohm meter from the valve covers to the IDM connector. Not easy to get to the IDM there but from the sounds of you have already been there once.

EDIT- also one key areas to check on the main engine harness is where it goes over the driverside valve cover. The harness commonly gets chaffed there.

Thanks TJ I have checked the solenoid resistance with it off the injector and it was 2.8 ohms. The uvc wiring and gasket are new. What should the resistance be without going thru the harness? I thought it should be around 2.9 or 3 ohms. Yeah Ive had the IDM out and modified it already. Ill check the harness for any chaffed wires too. Ive worked on these for many years and Ive never seen one act like this.

Does anyone know if the wiring colors for the idm and injector circuits are the same for a 97 and a 2001

2.8 ohms is good
cylinder #5 is a tn/bk wire for your truck. Give me a few minutes and I can post some graphics that will be helpful but its time for dinner right now.

Thanks very much Ill do an ohm test on the wiring harness between the idm and the plug at the valvecover and see what I come up with. Ill be sure and post my results as soon as I can get the truck back in my shop.

Thanks for all the info and help
