With my newly found light foot, I find the transmission shifting into OD at 25 MPH. At times 3rd gear will release, the engine RPMs rise about 300, and then OD will engage. Dealer says this is the nature of the beast; I do not agree. Anyone else have or had this issue? What was the fix?
Mine won't go into OD until around 40, but there are many hills around here...What year is it, and is there another dealership you can go to? They can reflash your PCM, and change your shift patterns..
The transmission will shift to OD at about 25mph but the torque converter does not lock until about 40mph.

mine does that every once in a while. I have to be at the right amount of throttle and speed, any more throttle than normal it'll downshift to 3rd until the speed is higher, any less throttle the speed will drop and downshift to 3rd...

TCL is what OD is about. My truck will shift to THIRD, but not OD until 40mph or so. The OP said his truck went into OD at 25mph. When he said OD, I assumed he meant TCL, and not third gear.
The trans shifts 1st,2nd,3rd,tcc,then 4th. and yes, the converter can lock up at 25mph if the computer sees the right load. This is a normal condition and there is no reflash for this condition.
To clarify the problem - the trans shifts into 4th (OD) at approx, 25mph without the torque converter locking. The torque converter does lock about 40 mph. It feels like the 3rd gear clutch is releasing for 2-3 seconds before 4th engages. You can feel the engine rev and see the tach rise about 200 rpm before 4th engages. Question is - does anyone elses act this way? Is this harmful to the trans for the long term?

Mine did the same thing a few times, but only when I was REALLY *****-footing it around listening for a noise only a dog, or I could hear. I didn't like it. I called Ford, they updated our puters, (I work at a shop) reflashed my PCM, and it never happened again. Running at 25mph in 4th won't kill you if you have no load on it, and if it downshifts without having to search for a gear when you catch a hill...
I wasn't paying attention, when I replied, quoting YOU as the OP (Original Poster). My apologies.
Do you know what rev. the reflash was? My dealer was able to replicate the problem but could not find anything from Ford that addressed it. It is possible that a reflash would fix the problem and the dealer/Ford not realize it.
Mine did the same thing to me while I drive in my neighborhood. I drive slow because of all of the kids walking the roads. I never worried about it. I no longer have this issue with my programmer.

Unless I'm going numb as well as deaf mine won't shift into OD or converter lock up until 40 mph. When that happens I get about a 700 rpm drop. If I'm over 40 mph I can push the OD button to take it out of OD and the converter will still be locked. My SD with the 4R100 would lock the converter between 30-35 and OD at 44 mph.
