I have a 1991 Ford 4.9L that is having transmission problems. Shifts hard and it jumps into reverse after a delay. Any recommendations?
That trans is fully electronic and dependent on the motor sensors to shift correctly or it goes into a limp mode that produces the hard shifts because it does not know what load the tuck is under and therefore increases the line pressure to protect it from slippage and failure. Hows that for a run on sentence... Check your codes and report back for more help.
Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link on how to check for trouble codes. Maybe try that.
The MLPS is the device on the drivers side of the trans that the shift linkage connects to. Most parts stores list it as the neutral safety switch.
but if thats bad wouldnt it cause it to not start being te neutral saftey switch?
im having the same issues with my truck as well after installing a b&m shift kit... ****s to bloody hard from 1st to 2nd.
i fitst instaled te stage 2 and found t to rough so swpaed to the stage one springs and it still feels the same....
woud the mlps throw a code or cause a chek engine light?
