Starter Troubles
I posted awhile back bout my starter being stuck. I replaced the starter solenoid and ingnition. Well I finally took the ohm meter to the starter solenoid and the contacts aren't welded together. Evidently there is a wire that has a rubber piece on it that says fusible link that hooks up on the same side as the battery cable to the solenoid. It goes from the side of the solenoid to the alternator. I'm not sure exactly what it does since there are other wires that go to the back of the alternator too. I am definitely at a loss of ideas now. Please some info.

A fuse link is a short piece of wire that is specific to length and gage and works just like a fuse to protect the alternator from reverse currents. If there is a short or over load it will burn in two. Inspect it to see if it is burned, bubbled, or expanded the insulation. If it has, it should be replaced. Also check it with a volt or ohm meter to see if its still good. This link runs between the alternator and the starter relay on my truck.
