Hi guys iv got a 1976 ford f100 custom 460ci with the 18pin wiring loom for the cluster. I have not long had my alternator sent off for repair it came back and was working fine untill i tampered with the starter solenoid and think i may of put the wire from the alternator on to the negative side of the starter solenoid by accident but changed it back over now. what should i check seen as i cant find any fuses for the alternator.
Does it still start and run? If not, there is a fusible link in the small wires that hook to the battery side of the starter solenoid. It has a small tab that says "fusible link 16 ga".
Tug on this wire to see if it gives. If it does the link is blown and needs to be replaced.
Thanks for the advise i have had a look at the fuse you are saying about and it seems to be still in tack. yes it starts and runs but im thinking i will have to have it sent off yet again hehe thanks

The fusible link can look fine but what it is designed to do is burn apart on the inside of the protective outer coating. Make small bends in the wire to see if there is a spot where it has burnt apart. It will be pretty evident by feel when you find the spot where/if it has burnt apart.
You really don't state in your post what the problem is. Is the charging system not charging? Do you have a way of testing the voltage output when the truck is running?
i have been out and brought a multimeter and have put the 2 prongs on the battery whilst charging and it is showing 12.0 when i give her a rev it still stays the same and drops a little so what i done is got the negative prong on the battery and the possitive prong directley from the back of the alternator and it still reads the same. Do i have to check the volts from the voltage regulator or can i just stick with the back of the alternator. thanks guys. sorry im new to this forum lol
If it is only putting out 12 volts when running it is not charging, that is what your battery voltage is. It should be between 13.8 and 14.3 volts when running. If I were you I would pull the alternator and voltage regulator and take them to be tested.
