Yeah, I've heard of it...I'm in Hinton! Small world huh?

So whatcha doin in AL? Plan on coming back? I spent 25 years on active duty in the Air Force and then settled here.

My truck did the same thing (04)... Ran rough at start and couldn't drive it until it warmed up...Have the dlr check the injectors.. My were just replaced and now it is fine.. runs awesome and gets better mileage. (I use 5w-40 Mobil synthetic oil)
Your oil has nothing to do with it...

My 04 had injector stiction so bad you could walk faster than the truck on cold mornings.lol That changed the first day with new injectors. It started with the truck being slugish on cold mornings and went to clouds of white smoke if it wasn't plugged in. Find the hotshots thread in this forum and see if you fit your troubles with a happy user or two.By the time I found hotshots it was too late for my injectors.

you are well aware of the oil level is kinda critical in these engines. it should be around 13.5 qts any more or less and the truck may run poorly. also i would check your oil filter housing cap. did you replace the o-ring as well as it needs to be replaced at every oil change.

as to the injectors , no if it is stiction it will do what you describe, i had two bad injectors and it would run rough in the morning at first start for the first mile or two then would clear up.

My ford diesel mechanic told me NOT to run Rotella. It was his experience that it caused to many problems in the 6.0.

I took his advice but have no idea if it is valid. I have had some oil leaks but no other issues with the truck. (knocks on wood until knuckles raw)

Like brickie said sounds like injector stiction. Find the thread on Hotshots oil additive.

That spool valve only moves .017", back and forth, on and off every time the injector fires. Many factors play in to how well that valve works such as, oil temp, oil quality, normal wear, ambient temp, and many others. As this valve ages it polishes itself inside the bore of the spool valve and as the spool valve slams back and forth it can set up the condition like a suction cup, hanging the valve to one side or the other. This uncommanded uncontrollable condition is called stiction. Mostly its a rough run cold condition but in severe cases it can be a no start or pretty harsh misfire condition. Oil that stays inside the valve on a hot engine shutdown and is allowed to cool slowly in the injector can aggravate the condition on restart, so the newest reflash uses inductive heat after shutdown to keep the oil warm, keep its viscosity low, and maximize the oil flowability to purge the oil from them. It has worked fantastic. It is an excellent preventative measure.
