My truck just broke down 100 miles from home today. Lost power running down the interstate pulling my 5'er. Took the next off ramp, died 1/2 down, coasted into parking lot and that was it. Would not run, would not fire. Turns over fine. Fuel supply good, replaced filters anyway. No change. Anyway, had it towed home so my local guy can fix. It got hauled home on a car hauler and the 5er pulled home with my BIL F250 V10. Car Hauler was an International chassi at least. Not a che....che....che....can't say it.
That would be my guess too as I had this happen to me on my late 04. Mine stalled and not restart on an off ramp to the freeway though. Luckily my ICP is on the passenger head and I was able to unplug it and get to where I was going.
I hope that is all it is. Someone mentioned the HPOP. This thing just lost power quick, I took the next off ramp, it died 1/2 way down, coasted into the lot. No idea up until the power suddenly dropped. Pulling 12,000 lb 5er. It's home now and waiting on my mechaninc.
Did you try unplugging the ICP sensor? The 2005's and up had issues w/ the HPOP STC fitting, but the earlier models didn't have that fitting. As some have suggested, it could be the HPOP itself, but that is less common. Again .. do you have any DTC's?
My 03/04 had a o-ring kit in the hpo system that went bad at 110k miles. One o-ring was cut in half and the d-ring into the cover was shot. It first showed its self as long (6+ second)crank times, and in short order progressed to loss of power hot and then to a hot stall.I am not sure how common this problem is but an easy way to check is to unplug the icp and run it until its hot and see if it stalls.
Did not see any DTC's. I will try to unplug the ICP today and see if that is it. With 100493 miles, I hope my dealer is a good as I think about working with me. So far so good. I'll let everyone know.
lwfox,If you find that you have to go into the hpo system I suggest that when out the intake manifold that you cut the back cross over out and weld the holes. The reason for this is if ever you have to go back in there you wont have to remove the intake again. If you have ever taken off the intake manifold you will know why it a nice job to avoid.

I'll keep that in mind if we have to go that far. Still holding out for a simple fix.
Well, it's the HPOP for sure. We started on it today and finally ruled out everything else, tore in to it and that is the problem. I say "we" but since I am machanically disinclined, it was all the work of my mechanic. They let me watch some when I had time. He did get it to run, poorly, to get it into the shop.
Estimate $1371 parts and labor. We are working with Ford to get them to cover it, or at least some of it since the truck has 100493 miles on it. I was expecting more $$$ than that, although that's bad enough.
Great to hear it was sorted out quick.I replaced mine when I was in there, figured I didn't want to have to go back in to replace a HPO pump that had in my hand on some later date. Are you going to block the egr?It might be a good idea now that you are in there.
