Well I'm new here so please go easy. I have searched and am more confused than when I started. I have just bought a 03 6.0 with 70,xxx miles, and am changing the oil first time in the morning I had planned on using Rotella from the start but not sure what to use now. It's all I have ever used in diesel equipment (older farm stuff) , will the Rotella 15-40 work ?

 

I was not a synthetic user but I have Rotella Syn in my truck and have had no problems.....I will stay with it for now. Any oil properly rated is fine.

 

I run Rotella 15-40 CJ-4 in mine with no problem. I go with 10-30 in the winter as it's thinner.

 

i currently run rotella 5-40 syn, but will be switching to mobil 1 5-40 this weekend... figured i would give it a try...

Any CJ-4 oil of the brand of your choice will be just fine, dino or synthetic. Just change it every 5K miles and you will be good to go. I personally have run Rotella T in everything for years.

 

I've been running Rotella Syn 5W-40 since 5000 miles(now have 50,000). I've had excellent UOA(used oil analysis) reports. I also use the block heater and oil pan heater(Wolverine model 16) in the winter for easier starts.
