WTF?? EBPV Doing weird stuff

So i wanted to unplug the EBPV so it wouldnt come on. Simple operation right....Well i unplug it and it still comes on and works as normal. I know i got the right plug. Does anyone have any idea why the valve would work even if it is unplugged???? i know it uses engine oil but if it works properly when plugged in then why would it work properly unplugged. It s almost like the plug is just for decoration or something. Any ideas let me know. The EBPV is very annoying. Thanks

Well a true PSD expert is sure to chime in soon , but here is my shade tree idea.............. As far as I know the EBPV is just a flap valve control by an electronic switch and no oil involved , so ifn the switch is disconnected and the flap valve is still closing my shade tree guess is that you have undone the wrong switch or the the EBPV is busted at the point of control and is and is loose as a goose and free to open and shut with the vibration of the engine as it runs and drive down the road........... Have you tried to move the EBPV with your hand? The EBPV should not be able to move by hand, I disconnected mine 8 years ago and it has never once moved to the closed position.............

Did you unplug the sensor (front of the engine) or the actuator (on turbo)?

I unplugged it right under the compressor housing under the turbo. I can unhook the actuator rod from the flapper and it moves freely. yet for some reason with the actuator unplugged it still works. Really its quite mysterious. Thats the only plug that under the compressor housing so its pretty hard to F*** it up. ive seen bunches of pics of the plug on this forum so im sure i got the right one. Any other ideas???? The valve is not loose. It will come on when its cold and go off when it reaches operating temperature, whether its unplugged or not.

Strange. The wire you unplugged goes to a solenoid that will let oil flow to the actuator. If it is unplugged the solenoid should stay closed. Oil must be getting by it to the actuator to work.

That is very strange! unhook the rod and wire the valve open. I would guess the soleniod is back or some dumb thing!

I was thinking about doing that but im worried it may start to leak oil. the rod looks a little oily already but there is no leak. Any thoughts about what to do with the rod? maybe ill just wait for a while and gut it. i just put 3.5" straight pipe all the way back and a 3" downpipe and the truck sounds like a jet when the valve is on. Its really quite ridiculous. I dont like it at all.

I Dont See How It Would Work With It Unpluged, I Think You Got The Wrong Wire. It Has A Green Seal Around It And Its A Double Plug Under The Turbo.

If its working as it should, you DEF have the wrong plug. Wait for Robbt or Kawa, I think that they have pics, atleast someone did. The selinoid wont operate without power, and if its ONLY working when cold, your still getting power. My next question is, where the heck do you live and how cold has it been getting there to actually make it work?? Mine doesnt work till it gets down to freezing or so, and its been in the 50s here in central ohio at night.

if you unplugged the right wire than it is physicly impossible for the valve to operate as designed, if it activates when cold and shuts off when warm then the wire is still connected to the pcm,

Can you send a pic of the wire you unplugged. Cant see how you can get the wrong wire. It is the only plug under the turbo.

I can post a picture eventually. I am getting ready to go on a trip to ill for two days to pickup my chassis dyno. Its gonna be a good day. But anyway. I live near Cleveland,OH. The valve will come on even if its like 80 out. From what i have been hearing it should not do that. Some say the valve should bypass over certain throttle angles but it stays on the truck will barely do 35 mph until its warmed up. its a serious PITA. Seriously i know for sure i got the right plug i checked mitchell, alldata and every forum i can find and they all point to the same plug that i unplugged. I know how outlandish it sounds that the valve works all the time but its puzzled me. Which is why i came here. So hopefully we can figure it out. Thanks for the help guys i appreciate it. maybe if i have time ill post a pic tomorrow before i leave.

In your last post you said the valve works "all the time". Thi s can only happen when the return side of the selinoid is bad. Doesnt matter if you plug it, unplug it, hotwire it, nothing. It needs some mechanics wire to hold it open. I bet youll notice a increase in your MPG as well. Whats happeneing is your allowing the flapper to rattle around and rotate to the closed position. You need to hold it in the OPEN position. These stupid ebpv is a wothless design anyhow, and dont do a darn thing for anyone in the winter. Its good in theory, but isnt worth a crap in real life. Wire it open, get your dyno, and since your only an hour from me, give me a free pass to get some of my stuff up there....LOL
