Excursion rear seat???

I am thinking about buying a used Excursion but one concern with them is the rear seat. The rear bench has no head rests and that is a concern for me since I have 4 kids and 2 would sit back there. Is there anyway to have aftermarket headrests installed?

I found a few V10 Excursions for $16K and I would love to jump on it but this is holding me back. Thanks!!!

This has been discussed on here and I've seen some photos posted of elders who have done it - they looked good. I had considered doing it myself just for comfort of 3rd row passengers but didn't want to look over them in my rear view, or have head rests hindering the dogs ability to jump back and forth between the cargo area. Search around the posts - you'll find them.

Check my pictures for 3rd seat headrests. They are from a Dodge minivan.

Mine are from a Mazda 5. In my gallery. (click on user name)

They do not interfere with rear visibility and both my dogs can still jump back and forth unless the barrier is there, of course

However, even if neither was true, preventing one of my kid's head from snapping off in a wreck is more than worth any hassle they wold have given.

Find some in a junkyard that you like, drill some holes, put in the plastic spacer things to prevent vibration and you're done. And the kids are much safer.

I like what you did here, thanks for the reference to your gallery.

Did you drill all the holes in the poles for the hitch pins (that I think it says you aren't really using anyway) or were they there for the Mazda head rests?

I saw a few tan leather one's on ebay just now that may do the trick but I will check locally first so I can find the proper plastic things for them to slide into.

Is that an aftermarket seat cover on yours, or the OEM? Mine are just plain tan leather (2004 Lmtd) but I am looking around for some type of neoprene or other protector type of seat covers - lots of sand from the beach and hair from the dogs on the leather.

Thanks again. It looks like if I found the right ones this could be knocked out relatively quickly.

I did but realized that it was a waste of time. They aren't adjustable up and down. I wanted to make them so but realized that they are tall enough for even ME to sit back there comfortably. I used Mazda 5 headrests because I own two of them. I put headrests with DVD players in one of them and used the stock headrests that I removed. Pretty cool as the donor Mazda has the same neoprene seat covers.

I got that from my local ACE hardware. I'm going to get another, along with the proper name for it, take a better picture and update my gallery. Shoot...I just left there, too!

Yeah...aftermarket. I went though Luxury Covers.com. I can't say I recommend them because they have real crappy email only communication. But hey, I saved a few bucks. The brand (in my gallery) is available from many online retailers.

It really is an easy mod. Wonder why I waited so long to do it!

Monsta's all over this one. He gave me the idea. I agree, why did we wait so long.

Are the hard to install? My husband works at a dealership so I am sure he can do it or someone there could. Looks like I might get an X tomorrow from a Ford Auction. Fingers crossed!!!

Very easy! In fact, it's so easy this guy could do it.

Monsta how tall are you? You say the headrests reach your head, I'm 14 and still sit in the 3rd row when we go on trips since its pretty comfortable back there, however the only gripe I have is the lack of a head rest back there. I'm about 5'5 give or take a few inches.

What I'd really like to do is put the 3rd row headrests from the current Expeditions on the Excursion and also fit some larger headrests into the 2nd row as I find them a bit to small for my tastes. How hard do you all think it would be to put 3rd row headrests from the Expedition into the Excursion?

The headrests in the new Expy are not removable. You'd have to cut the frame.

I'm 5' 11".
