I have read about this issue but it has been occuring at will for the last 6 months on and off. The brakes lights are all on. Sometimes I have to press the brake pedal all the way to floor and sometimes even that doesnt work. And other times it works perfectly. Got me on why this happening, any thoughts? Thanks
My thought is find out where the locking pin or whatever it is and rip it out.
More then likely the actuater for the locking mechanism is going bad since it "should" be running off the same switch as the brake lights I would imagine. I dont have any experience with this on the excursion, I am basing this off other GM vehicles I have seen with this problem. System should be similar though.
are you sure that its not the cable assembly. I would remove it from the trans and then try to move the shifter. I had to replace mine last year. mine would really be hard to shift out of park. took about and 1/2 hr. to do.
Before you modify anything with the interlock assy.
Change out your brake light switch on the top side of brake pedal.
It takes 5 min. with only a needle nose pliers to get the hair pin out.
