pizza on the grill? anybody tried it?

Anybody ever cook pizza on a bbq grill? not talking about a gas grill, but charcoal. how did it taste? how long to cook from frozen? A guy at work was telling me about how good it tasted, but it was so long ago he couldn't remember the specifics. any ideas? thanks!!

Do you put it right on the metal grille or do you use a pizza stone??

I might want to try this sometime..

If you have like Hambuger or a raw topping that needs to be precooked first

I've cooked several on my Big Green Egg. But all pizza from scratch, with homemade dough and sauce. It's definitely a trial and error process. None have been bad. But getting the ingredients just right is the key.

I have found right at 600 degrees seems to work best for this type of thin crust pizza. Obviously that temp would not be the way to go with frozen. I do use a stone and put cornmeal on it to keep it from sticking.

right on the grill, saw an episode on food tv once, made it, it was great....we all know how veges and meats can taste off of a charcoal grill, but on pizza off the grill....mmm..mmmm..mmmmmmmm

id use a pizza stone if my grill was nasty looking though, you gotta have a clean grate, and brush with oil. i like olive oil myself

my brother has one of those traeger wood pellet grills, and a while ago he picked up a couple take-n-bake pizza's from the local joint and cooked them up on the grill. I don't think he did anything special, just put it on the grill with the little cardboard cooking pan in came in and let it go. It was excellent. Especially the garlic chicken one, it tasted really good with the smoke flavor.

I imagine any grill that gets hot enough to cook at whatever temperature the pizza is supposed to cook at would be just fine, though you may need a way to keep the direct flames off of it.

Frozen pizza...........whacked!

I have never done it personally but I have had it at a local "fancy" pizza place. Very good. Adds alot of flavor to a otherwise bland crust.

It's fantastic. We thought about this while drunk on the beach. Thought we had invented something at the time.
