My truck needs help

Please help..last weekend I cleaned my truck (pressure washed the engine) it ran great until I did that. It started not shifting right, wouldn't go into over drive. Changed the fuel filter and it ran Sunday morning, but on our way home the engine light came on. Since Sunday we have changed the fuel filter(2 times), changed the cam sensor and the fuel pump. It was starting very hard, the idle has been very rough also. Now, today it will not start at all. Please any ideas..

By pressure washing the engine. You may have forced water into electrical connectors. Is your engine light still on? Do you have a way to pull the codes from your truck?

BTW Welcome to FTE!!

Welcome to FTE. I guess you've figured out by now that power washing the engine is a no-no. Did you cover anything before you used the pressure washer? How many PSI was the pressure washer rated at and how far away did you hold the wand from the motor?

Do you have a CEL (check engine light) on the dash? How rough has it been idling? You may need to disconnect, inspect, and clean all those little electrical connections you see in there. I would closely inspect the 9 pin (long rectangular) connector that plugs into the side of your valve covers to make sure you didn't knock one loose.

This might also be a good time to flush your power steering fluid since you likely got some water in there. Have you checked your IC boots to make sure they're tight and you didn't accidentally spray a bunch of water in there?

The best way in my opinion to clean the electrical connections is to use a electrical contact cleaner. My fave is CRC Lectra Clean.

It ran good for about 20 mins after I pressure washed it. I was about 4 feet away and it was 80 psi. For some crazy reason I didn't cover anything. I do have a way to pull the codes but it will not read. The engine light only comes on when you let off the gas.

What kind of scanner for code reading do you have? Make sure you turn your ignition key ON when reading codes (engine off).

Check you alternator output. That much water could have damaged it and these things won't run on less the 10.5 volts. 20 minutes is about how long your batteries would hold out with no alt.

You can do a redneck battery check by turning on you headlights and turning the key over. If the headlights go dim or out, then you have battery/alt issues.

Chris, I am looking in the book I picked up at the parts store this week and I can't find IC boots. What is this?

Do you know how much power? You can have enough to turn it over, but still lack enough to start it.

This ain't Chris, but the IC boots are the intercooler boots. They are on the big tubes that go to something that looks like a radiator and are blue.
