Please Help! injector ?'s
ok, I have been having a huge smoking problem at start up and at an idle, I took it to ford, they told me 5,7,and 8 needed replaced, so I ordered the injectors and replaced them.... same problem. I have narrowed it down to 5 and 7 that are causing my problems.... I can un plug these two injectors and the smoking problem is totaly gone none at all, I have ohmed the uvch to these two injectors and came up with 0.2 to 0.3 ohms from the plug to each injector plug, so i know the wires under the valve cover are good.. but what I dont know how to do is test the two + wires that plug in atop the valve cover.. everyone says dont pierse the wires, is there a way to test the wires back to the IDM? maybe a short in these two? I dont know I am at a loss here.. any help would be much appreciated.. I do know for a fact that from the plug atop the vc to the injector plugs is good... I went over that 100 times today. this is on a 2000 F-350. have replaced ipr,ipc,3 inectors, and the cps. I have a feeling i have a bad IDM or a short in the two + wires to these two inectors.. Thanks guys!!
Update< I just hooked the ohm meter up to the male end of the plug that plugs into the vc from and got no tone or reading from pin 3 or 4 the + wires for inector 5 and 7, to ground, so that tells me that there is no short in these two wires right?
Did you check the 9 pin connector on top of the VC with the following? There is acually 8 + wires and 1 minus wire.. (4 for the glow plugs and 4 for the injectors)..
GGIICIIGG
G = Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C = Injector -
Ohms between the G and block Ground should be 0.1 - 2.0 ohms.
Ohms between the I and C one at a time if one or more is > 5 ohms, it will point to the side's gasket connector being loose or UVC harness being shorted.
Also check under the large wire harness that lays on top of the Driver's side VC.. read several posts where they rub on the cover and short out.. Use a mirror to look under.

yes I have, ohms between injector+ and Injector - are 3.1-3.5 all of them, male plug = GOOD, female connector = GOOD, all checked out, uvch = Good, no shorts, I've just triple checked all wires and plugs from VC to injectors.. all checked out = GOOD. I must have a bad IDM? any way to check this thing in or out of the truck? its only on cylnders 5 and 7, that is seems to be dumping fuel all the time, if I unplug both injectors no more stinky white unburnt fuel smoke at all, plug them back in and it smokes like a locomotive!! I just dont get it, I keep getting the 1316 code and 1211.. I am at my wits end here, please advise if you have any more knowlage on what could be going on with these two cylinders. is there any way to check the volts going to the two + wires on these two inectors while its running>? what should the values be and at what pulse? Thank you in advance!!

Have you made sure you have good compression in those 2 cylinders??? If you have low compression it will smoke....

If you what to check for continuity and/or shorts here is the pin out for the female plug and male socket. The female picture and labeling are not real clear. It is easiest to figure out female pins if you turn it upside down so it is oriented to the better labled male plug.
Thanks Bruce. As I have told you before "It's the thought that Counts".
One of these days I will take my own pic of the female plug.

Mixing those is not good. Not sure it would cause your problems but you shouldn't run a mix of injectors codes! what do you have in there right now?
Thank you all for your replies, first to miker67 all O-rings are new, twice on 5&7, Mr. Bob compression on 5 was 410 and 7 was 400, Thank you Payson for the diagrams, I will ohm out pin 8 and 20 back to the plug to make sure I dont have a short there somewhere.... and all have AD's in the holes as of now... Looks like i am buying a new IDM. unless anyone else has any other ideas.. thanks guys!!
