i have a 2002 f450 with a 7.3. i have a hard code 1272- high to low side open. i have done the tests that the ford manual said to do. tested the injector, less than 5 ohms like the book said. tested the wiring harness from valve cover connector to idm, all tested good tested valve cover connector and showed good. did wiggle test on harnesses, all good. book said to replace idm, replaced it and still has same problem!! anybody have this problem before! and any hints what to look for next?
thanks
did not do the 50 cent mod, but checked the connectors inside and outside of valve cover and nothing was burned out, and checked with ohm meter, and read 0 ohms. and the plug is not loose.
i have not tried that, think that will be my next step. does anyone know if this problem would cause the check engine light to come on at idle, but if you press the throttle the light goes out. as soon as you let off throttle it will come back on. oil pressure is good so that isnt causing it i know.

That kind of sounds like an intermittent connection. Do you have AE? Did you check the harness over the driver side vc for chafing?
been thru all the harnesses on this did not see any chafing. only codes im bringing up is for the idm. p1272 high to low side open. im using a snapon modis for doing the diagnostics. going to try to swap injectors in the morning to see if code jumps to the next injector.
I just thought this worth mentioning: I wouldn't pull the injectors, just swap the solenoids. Pulling injectors involves o-rings and 7.3L bodily fluids.
im really scratching my head now!! lol. i swapped the injectors to diffrent holes, did injector buzz test all 8 buzz loud and clear. still got p1272 code. pulled off gasket, checked all wiring on it all tested fine. checked connections in gasket, good. replaced them anyway. still p1272 code comes up.i have checked the harness from the valve cover to the idm, circuit 557, low side white wire to idm, less than 5 ohms, actualluy showed .02 ohms. i checked high side circuit 878 pink and yellow wire from valve cover injector harness to idm connector, shows fine, and tested to see if they are shorted together, was good. now im at a real loss. i have replaced idmnot sure whats next. grrrrrr!!!

.02 ohms is not right. you probably have an issue with one or two injector solenoids. what were the exact readings for each injector harness? Thay all should be very close to 2.9ohms.
Dont forget to check the harness wires under the valve cover to make sure none of them are routed against a rod. The movement can also cause wear there and cause a short.
not being rude at all. any help i get is great.yes i did clear the code. came right back. but the boss decided to retire this truck and trade it in. has over 500 thousand on it and said he didnt want to spend any more money on it. thanks everyone for your help. this site and the people on it are great!
